As I think most parents do, I wish I could transfer the actual UNDERSTANDING of people I've gained through my own mistakes to the young, so that they wouldn't have to make those mistakes themselves, in order to gain the same understanding.

That funny sounding statement comes from my support for exactly what you said you want, being mixed with my experience about how easy it can be for the worst kind of people to make you THINK that they are doing exactly as you describe.

Wisdom is gained from experience, personal experience.

What you are referring to is imparting knowledge to another based on your own wisdom. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It depends upon the person you are imparting the knowledge to and how valid they hold your revelations.

Gaining knowledge without wisdom can make you smart but may not make you wise.
You can be told to do or not to do something with valid information but if you have not experienced it yourself, chances are very good if the outside advice is not heeded, that you will end up doing or not doing what others warned you about.
