Topic: Moon was once much closer | |
---|---|
Did you know, at one point in Earths long history the moon was 20 times closer than what it is today. Could you imagine what tides and storms must have been like in those days.
The gravitational index would have been much higher because of the moons closer proximity to the Earth. |

Yes I did
Just imagine what's going to happen as it gets further away |
I thought it was getting closer

well, as long as it does not come crashing into us like a cue ball.. I don't care.

I think we'll be safe as long as you don't live in Washington or new York, all the disaster film's I've seen they are the 2 places that get it

Really? Maybe it's had enough of us!
We really can't be without it I think? |

Really? Maybe it's had enough of us! We really can't be without it I think? It has to do with the moons orbit getting larger. I don't fully understand it, but it's interesting. |

It is interesting, I thought it was slowing down so being pulled closer!
I used to have dreams years ago and in it we had 2 moons! |

It is interesting, I thought it was slowing down so being pulled closer! I used to have dreams years ago and in it we had 2 moons! What I read was that it was making the earth slow down, the further away it gets. That part would be the concern I imagine. Although I think it will take a really long time before it comes to a stop. I used to have strange dreams too about having more than one moon, and being on another planet. |

Very strange, but so interesting
A guy called professor Brian Cox is good, and I used to watch the sky at night in the old days with the guy with the monical Patrick Moore, great old guy |

the moon holds us in our orbit around the sun once it drifts far enough away from us and breaks free we will drift out of the "Goldilocks zone" and earth will grow cold and life will cease to exist on this planet...

the moon holds us in our orbit around the sun once it drifts far enough away from us and breaks free we will drift out of the "Goldilocks zone" and earth will grow cold and life will cease to exist on this planet... Well that's a scary thought. Thanks for explaining it. Hopefully we have a long ways to go before that happens. |
the sun will burn out and either a) go cold and we freeze or b) go supernova and blow us up before the moon drifts away...there's also a chance a large object could strike the moon sending it and us out of orbit before then...none of which are fun thoughts but all of which are millions-billions of years into the future presumably

Or its being pulled by a black hole.
There will be a lunar eclipse August 21.

The Goldilocks zone is where we are everything is perfect to sustain life.

Astronomers refer to the area surrounding a star that an Earth-like planet could support life as we understand it as the "Goldilocks Zone". Meaning that just like the fictional character, the rest of us humans are kinda picky when searching for new worlds to corrupt. |

Now if we just follow Hansel und Gretel's breadcrumb trail it probably would lead us right to a globe that's "just right" for us to stake claim to. |
