I'm not real sure what Fanta is driving at with his Shake-N-Bake American comment, but i will assume it was not directed at me because i have never given an opinion on these forums regarding that subject
No not to you! but I cant believe you would take from one of your own! They could draft, but unfortunately, Bush could not conduct, his illegal war, without the volunteer soldier! The draft would require All Americans to sacrifice equally, and They would protest in the streets!! No more, merely the spectator, they would become involved, and their fantasies would become commitment and participation! Their souls would be torn their reality, shocked! Their minds would reel! |

Why is this topic even questioned??
The only reason we are American is because of men and women, like this man, who have given everything. He completed his commitment!!! above and beyond!! Why should this be a question?  Why should it be debated??  |

It is a question and should be debated because not everyone sees things the exact same way. Even my pro-war, pro-Bush, pro-ass-kicking self likes a good debate. Nothing wrong with some friendly opinion-exchanging.

There are so few actually joining in this armed forces, without monetary gain. I was actually asking this question in all earnest. In my opinion - absolutely not. And that sucks. I would love to be able to say that i would readily trust every soldier i served with with my life, but that would be a lie. People who join strictly for the money generally make for lousy soldiers. I can see using the bonus to tip the scales on which MOS you choose, assuming you are stuck between a few. But it should not be used to make the decision on joining in the first place. I don't think bonuses should be offered for first-timers for just that reason. Pride is not something that is bought. You either have it or you don't. And if you don't - stay home.

Wounded Soldier: Military Wants Part Of Bonus Back Reporting Marty Griffin PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The U.S. Military is demanding that thousands of wounded service personnel give back signing bonuses because they are unable to serve out their commitments. To get people to sign up, the military gives enlistment bonuses up to $30,000 in some cases. Now men and women who have lost arms, legs, eyesight, hearing and can no longer serve are being ordered to pay some of that money back. One of them is Jordan Fox, a young soldier from the South Hills. He finds solace in the hundreds of boxes he loads onto a truck in Carnegie. In each box is a care package that will be sent to a man or woman serving in Iraq. It was in his name Operation Pittsburgh Pride was started. Fox was seriously injured when a roadside bomb blew up his vehicle. He was knocked unconscious. His back was injured and lost all vision in his right eye. A few months later Fox was sent home. His injuries prohibited him from fulfilling three months of his commitment. A few days ago, he received a letter from the military demanding nearly $3,000 of his signing bonus back. "I tried to do my best and serve my country. I was unfortunately hurt in the process. Now they're telling me they want their money back," he explained. It's a slap for Fox's mother, Susan Wardezak, who met with President Bush in Pittsburgh last May. He thanked her for starting Operation Pittsburgh Pride which has sent approximately 4,000 care packages. He then sent her a letter expressing his concern over her son's injuries, so she cannot understand the U.S. Government's apparent lack of concern over injuries to countless U.S. Soldiers and demands that they return their bonuses. While he's unsure of his future, Fox says he's unwavering in his commitment to his country. "I'd do it all over again... because I'm proud of the discipline that I learned. I'm proud to have done something for my country," he said. But Fox feels like he's already given enough. He'll never be able to pursue his dream of being a police officer because of his wounds and he can't believe he's being asked to return part of his $10,000 signing bonus. KDKA contacted Congressman Jason Altmire on his behalf.  the time is now!!! Many of us are voluntarily fighting now to take America back! Immigration, lobyist, and crooked lying politicians Politicians who have lined their pockets on our futures! Out-sourceing our jobs, while creating a larger portfolio for their futures. Using our anger at an atrocity to start a war for their own benefit! Americans have always fought back, and forth among each other! Look at how long it took to ratify the constitution, "for evidence!" Give Americans something to fight for, and they will always come together! In my opinion America is that something!!  |

What is worse is that many of these youngins are from poor families and lower middle class families and cannot afford school on their own. But sacrifice, Patriotism, and our fellow soldier Were things we would always see, "the exact same way." |

Times they have changed. Hell of it is: even the soldiers do not agree anymore. They are mixed in their beliefs in this war and our leadership. Except; they do mostly agree on that they are brothers in arms and stand together...together.
One would wish that we could come to terms with our own government. But, it is as it is. Corrupt and devious. Self serving, and destructive. At any cost. *****ing and complaining will not change a darn thing. Action is what it takes, and too few will actually get off their butts and move on it. There is a movement, but it will take time. Yes fanta. Without question. But what I am referring too, is this: The only way most of our troops is joining, is because of the bonuses. Without that, I am afraid it would be a very small force. People just do not want to join the armed services much these days.
There have been many families speaking up about this vary thing. That the only reason their children joined was for the money and college. It should be about pride, and their country. Not saying that it doesn't become that after eating, sleeping and being together twenty-four-seven. But the armed forces is having to revert to those issues to get bodies. Why?? I agree with CB it's a bonus but they should not have to pay it back if they are injured in combat. They should pay it back if it's a noncombat injury.

The soldiers are split - but in my personal experience, there is a very specific type of soldier that is "anti-war". He is a white male, 18 - 20 years of age. His mother did not want him to join, but he wanted to be "tough". Then he got there and realized there is no glamour - he realized it's hot, dirty and that not all female soldiers are dying to sleep with him like he thought they would. He calls home and Mom proceeds to tell him all the things that are "not fair". He gets off the phone and passes it along.
I am in no way saying this is the rule, nor am i saying that everything is "Mom's fault". However, the truth is that i found relatively few women and even fewer officers and senior enlisted who didn't believe in the cause. |

Why, other than the absurdness of of the question itself, and those that would make this an issue worthy of a question?? Is this a question???? Are we to be the dog that bit the hand that fed him??? We only have the freedom to question, because of this man, and all those that gave!! Why is this a question?? Im going to get sick!!
