 have read a lot on the topic, but to me it is still merry christmas and a happy new year. why does that sound so bad, or so hard to say.

Long hair, I agree if you feel that way great for you, I was just saying that before Christianity the celebration on the 25th of December was a winter solstice celebration and the Christian adopted it as Christ's birthday. This means everyone can celebrate it as a holiday be they whatever religion they are. That is a good thing all inclusive holiday
