Sorry but going to play devil's advocate here...

Not pumping gas on a certain day is not going to help the economic situation for any party involved. Consumers not buying gasoline on a certain day does effect oil corporations one iota. This scheme doesn't not make the consumer use less gas, just shift the buying day...the very same amount of gas is going to be used just purchased prior or after the "don't buy gas today date". Consumers really are not making a sacrifice... I mean think about it.... you still need to buy the gas, right? What are the consumer's out? One day of inconvenience.... ohhhhh got them big oil companies shaking now don't we??? noway noway grumble grumble huh

Now if it makes you vent your anger at the oil companies by not buying gas on Wednesday then do soooooo....but that is not going to effect gas prices.

No a more productive protest against the oil bullies would be something more on the lines like using public transportation or carpool on a more long term basis, but simply changing the day you buy gas imparts no "real threat" to the oil companies, but gives them something to laugh about at the office.

The only thing that is truly going to lower gas prices is the consumption of such product. Solutions such as buying a car with better gasoline mileage, switching to alternative modes just don't appeal to many.

You want to send a message to them? Don't buy gasoline for 6 months. That sends a message. That makes the oil companies start to sweat. Where would they be without us???

Kinda makes ya think about the big picture huh????huh

No there will be consequences. The guy who owns the independent gas station could be put in quite the bind, his business will tank, and he'll go home angry and probably start drinking. Thereafter he will beat his kids. is that what you people talking about this nonsensical protest want, do you want kids to get beat up? You guys are sick in the head.

BS Geek2the10th laugh laugh laugh

That independent gas owner will have day of less business where he can jack it up 10 cents more the next and deal with longer lines...

No kids were harmed in the making of this thread.
No animals were dropped kicked from outraged gas owners....

bigsmile laugh

This type of "boycott" does nothing. The logic behind the boycott is flawed at best.

Some things to consider:
~the price for gasoline in the USA is pretty darn cheap compared to other countries (take a look at prices in Europe: =/-$7.00 per gallon).
~the only way to make any difference is to reduce your consumption EVERY day.

where's my applause icon? I already made the same argument and listed ways to increase fuel efficiency. I feel left out.

The company gas stations don't have as much to worry about as the independent mom and pop type, which aren't around much anymore. The independent guys have poor profit margins to begin with, they generally make more profit on the food and drinks they sell than the gas. If for a day, nobody gets gas, nobody goes inside to buy stuff. Food doesn't get sold before it expires, milk is one day closer to expiration, they're wasting energy keeping the store running. They also have fewer pumps, so once the rush for gas begins the next day people will go to a bigger place. Missing a day of business for the little guys can wipe out their profits they made the past few days and can put them in a bind.

Those are the guys who will do home and beat their kids. So go get gas on Nov 21st, do it for the kids.

OMG here is your applause geek2the10th lol

But in smaller towns those small mom & pops rule the roost and can make or break that town, break hearts or earn brownie points... yeah there are men who will go home and beat their kids, but it won't be dependent on a day of no buying gas... they will do it out of the same patterns...

enjoy the applause lol.....

ok I see your point atomicd....

so everyone post your miles per gallon your car gets....

I get between 38-42 depending....

You fill up like you normally would because not buying gas on one day does not prove anything short or long term....
