when I type these two words in my favorite search engine, the definitions come back
Pride: a feeling or deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one's own achievements, the achievements of those with whom one is closely associated, or from qualities or possessions that are widely admired. Achievement: a thing done successfully, typically by effort, courage, or skill. my grandmother taught me, I have no business being proud or ashamed of things I have nothing to do with: like the color of my skin, my height, or my nationality(where I was born) I therefore see pride as the opposite of shame, and I believe there are things determined by nature alone where pride and shame are silly and irrelevant That is why I have never necessarily felt 'proud' of being 'American'(born in America), but I have not felt ashamed of it either. I feel neither proud nor ashamed of being black. I feel neither proud nor ashamed of being female. I am proud of some of the THINGS Americans/blacks/females have done and accomplished and ashamed of others but being 'American', to me, is a matter of being born in America, which I played no part in determining being black is a matter of what bloodline I was born into , which I also played no part in determining and being female,,,,,,,you get the point Do you feel that someone not feeling 'proud' therefore feels 'ashamed', or that someone who doesnt feel 'ashamed' must feel 'proud' or do you recognize that people can feel neither proud nor ashamed? |

Opinions vary. Some people don't care or take anything seriously while others identify with a group to find themselves rather than seeking wisdom from within...

Yes of course I do, but these two words have also been turned into political game tokens, to the point where a lot of people are now PURPOSELY misunderstanding them.
