Dear Diary,

My kids are going to be scarred for life, they just watched Harry Potters latest movie, and are now watching the original Star Wars..laugh laugh laugh

My son came home from camp yesterday, and we were so lame, we sat and just grinned at each other for about an hour...we tried talking and we ended up giggling and then grinning again.

the neighbours would think we were nuts if they saw us...laugh

Hi Fresh!flowerforyou

I was reading the diary and wanted to comment on your situation with your daughter. Sorry to hear about your daughter having hematuria (blood in the urine). There may be many complications or infections to rule out. It is rare for children to develop kidney stones, but it can happen. If she have lower back sharp pain radiating down, then it may be stones. Painful urination. Anyhow, ultrasound and follow up with a CAT scan without iodine (contrast material) may determine the problem. Furthermore, other indications are ureterocele and pyelonephritis; they are both common with women and children. Ureterocele is a cystic dilatation of the lower end of the ureter near its insertion into the bladder. Pyelonephritis is a inflammation of the kidney and renal caused by pyogenic (pus-forming bacteria). She should have a CAT scan with iodine or VCUG with general tomo x-rays. Actually, VCUG may be uncomfortable for her since they have to catheterize her through the urethra. It is pretty painful for most patients. Inflammation of the urinary bladder is most common in women and children because of their shorter urethra. The major cause is the inadvertent spread of bacteria present in fecal material, which reaches the urinary opening and travels upward to the bladder. Okay, it may also be polycystic kidney disease which is an inherited disorder in which multiple cysts of varying size cause lobulated enlargement of the kidneys and progressive renal impairment; which is presumably a result of cystic compression of the nephrons (kidney tubules) that causes locized intrarenal obstruction.
Remember, request for ultrasound first since CT and VCUG require radiations to preform the exams. If so, I hope the technologist with reduce the dose for her and perform acceptable optimal diagnosis. Anyhow, a little radiation will out weigh the risk of infection. I wish you and your daughter the best of care. Take care! : -)
