California targets dairy cows to combat global warming

GALT, Calif. (AP) — California is taking its fight against global warming to the farm. The nation’s leading agricultural state is now targeting greenhouse gases produced by dairy cows and other livestock.

Despite strong opposition from farmers, Gov. Jerry Brown signed legislation in September that for the first time regulates heat-trapping gases from livestock operations and landfills.

Cattle and other farm animals are major sources of methane, a greenhouse gas many times more potent than carbon dioxide as a heat-trapping gas. Methane is released when they belch, pass gas and make manure.

“If we can reduce emissions of methane, we can really help to slow global warming,” said Ryan McCarthy, a science advisor for the California Air Resources Board, which is drawing up rules to implement the new law.

Reducing methane belching cows by learning from kangaroos

Cattle may no longer be blamed for greenhouse gas emissions thanks to a novel idea to change the bacteria in cattle rumens to behave more like those in kangaroos’ fore-stomachs.

Microbiologist at The University of Queensland, Associate Professor Athol Klieve is working with a team of microbiologists and genetic researchers to make cattle guts behave like kangaroos’. His idea is to replace the bacteria called methanogens that breakdown plant matter in cattle guts with a different type of bacteria called reductive acetogens.

“Both cattle and kangaroos eat grass that is fermented in an enlarged portion of the stomach, but while cattle belch large amounts of methane, kangaroos release very little,” Dr Klieve said.

“The bacteria in the foregut of kangaroos produces mainly acetic acid that is digested by the kangaroo.”

Dr Klieve’s team has identified several species of reductive acetogen bacteria from the gut of kangaroos and he is currently investigating how they compete with methanogens and whether similar conditions can be achieved in the rumen of cattle.

“We can hopefully identify how to improve the ability of reductive acetogens to out-compete the methanogens in cattle, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and also increase feed conversion efficiency.”

One outrage about the whole global warming scare is the myth pushed by Maurice Strong, Al Gore, et al that carbon dioxide is a heat-trapping gas. It is not. CO2 is routinely pumped into actual greenhouses to stimulate growth of the plants therein. It is well-known among greenhouse growers that CO2 concentration makes no difference at all to the air temperature inside a greenhouse.

Methane, on the other hand, does trap heat. Methane really is a "greenhouse gas."

According to Dane Wigington, speaking on rense last night, there is 100 times more methane on the floor of the Arctic Ocean, in the form of frozen methane hydrate, than it would take to transform this planet into an unsurviveably hot hell similar to Venus. And it has started to unfreeze. At its melting point, the methane gets released and floats up though the water to the surface, and rises into the atmosphere. Plumes of methane more than a kilometer wide are commonly observed in the Arctic nowadays.

This unfrozen ocean-floor methane hydrate is what is driving global warming, not any activity of man. The global warming is severe enough that pilots of private jets (e.g. Gulfstreams) are now forced to cruise at lower altitudes than the plane's design ceiling. Temperatures up to 35 F higher than normal at altitude are warming and thus expanding the upper atmosphere to the point where the engines cannot generate full power and the wings cannot supply enough lift to keep the aircraft aloft at its design altitude.

Some of the chemtrailing and HAARP atmospheric beam-heating that goes with it is being done in the name of combating the natural catastrophe of this methane hydrate release. Doesn't seem to be having any effect though, and meanwhile the fallout from it is devastating the forests and ocean plankton.

By comparison the methane from rotting haypiles and farting cows et cetera is nothing. Legislation which taxes cattle-raising and other agriculture is nothing but a criminal money grab.
