I suppose one could say that people who state that are very likely inflexible. I feel it's over the top too, but can tell something about a person. For instance, it could mean they are inflexible, dogmatic, narrow-minded and judgemental.

It's everyone's prerogative to decide what matters to them in selecting who they date, and it's everyone's prerogative to have an opinion that. No doubt about that. I guess what is baffling to me is why isn't just understood that there is a big difference in viewpoints between liberals and conservatives? That is the issue as I see it. This is larger than simply an elected official one votes for every four years. It's a difference in one's world view that you use to form those decisions. I am not attracted to people that don't respect my thoughts and opinions, and while it's possible to have connections with those who view the world drastically differently, it's also logical to use your world view as a filter to decide who to date. To me that is a much more meaningful criteria than merely physical appearance, etc. I'll say it one more time. That's why you should go by who and what the person is. The person within. That's what matters. That matters more than anything really. Anything after that is superficial. |

I respectfully agree and disagree. I agree that the 'person within' is what matters. I disagree that is separate from your political ideology. Political ideology is part of that. It's your personal values, ethics, beliefs that comprise your 'person within.' |

I have come across this in a couple of profiles..." "If you voted for (blank) you need not contact me" Really?...are we bringing politics into the dating game now?...How mature.  I would prefer to be notified ahead of time that a person has a particular political bias. That way I could avoid an uncomfortable situation. |

Almost every election we hear a romantic couple joke that "we cancel out each other's vote". Either discussing their different political faiths is just something they avoid, or they can accept and joke about it.
Perhaps people already in such relationships can chime in here and explain how they handled it in the beginning. |

Perhaps people already in such relationships can chime in here and explain how they handled it in the beginning. I've been in several. It's really simple. You weigh the good against the bad. They had more going for them than their political ideas. They voted Rep. I voted Dem. But it most certainly didn't keep us from having a lot of good times. In every relationship I've been in the ladies were Rep. We agree to disagree. When you are in a relationship with someone you may love or think a lot of, you learn that some buttons you just don't push. And politics can be one of those hot button things that's better left up to the politicians. Let them argue about it. |
