Odd Spectacle? Berlin Museum Rebuilds Hitler's Bunker as Tourist Attraction

The museum has also organized a 90-minute-tour called "Documentation Führerbunker" which is supposed to give visitors an opportunity to learn more about the end of the "Third Reich" and the history of that time in general, the official website of the museum said

The model of Hitler's bunker has been built in a huge bunker originating from the Nazi time, located just a few kilometers away from Hitler's original shelter. The bunker itself and the working room of Adolf Hitler have been rebuilt to their original size.

The museum not only reproduced the rooms in the bunker, but also provided visitors with authentic photos of that time, pictures from the movie "Der Untergang" ("Downfall") and extensive information on the bunker's location, people related to it and Hitler's last days there.

Although the idea was to give people a chance to learn more about the historic facts of that time, some German media outlets and organizations criticized this initiative.

"Berlin has once again confirmed its reputation as the capital of tastelessness," German newspaper Die Welt wrote, adding that the exhibition resembles a kind of an "odd spectacle," rather than a historical display.

The new initiative has also been criticized by the museum Topography of Terror, which is located on the site of the former headquarters of the Gestapo.

"We explain history, document it, and stick to the facts. That is why we cannot support such productions. Sensationalism isn't our thing," the museum's representative Kay-Uwe von Damaros said as cited by local.de.

Tasteless or not...

Hitler's bunker, is part of historic lore.
As long as, they don't glorify him, or, the snotzi party.

I think it is morbid & creepy.
And perhaps glorifing evil.
People should return to reading & schools to teaching history.

And of course , there is the controversy
of, did he die in a bunker? Where did he go? Where & when did he die?

This 'display' is just a bad idea.

Too much, HITLER talk in the last 2 years.
Weird spock

It's important for Germany to come to honest grips with it's own past. There's a small quote from a Harry Potter story, where someone points out that fear of talking about something, only makes that something stronger. So I'm in favor of all calm efforts to allow everyone to see what actually happened in the past, without it being presented as a horror story, or a magical fantasy, or as some sort of self-flagellation festival.
