Yep. I learned that lesson the hard way long ago as well.

Someone who says they reeeeeely like or even love you, but who want to chase someone else, are functionally lying. They might even believe it themselves, but that just means that they are also lying TO themselves.

Look at it this way: if you are their "consolation prize," even if the other person DOES dump them, they will want to find another FIRST choice for themselves, and replace you as soon as they can.

Again, lots of people do that, and you don't need to chastise them for it, they have lessons of life to learn as well. Just walk away, and look for someone who actually positively wants YOU.
