Five Oklahomans died in an accident Sunday morning on Interstate 35 near Goldsby when a car driving the wrong direction collided head-on with a car, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.



Dead are:

•Sofia Anne Roberts, 48, Maysville.

•Brant Mathew Winton, 23, Ada.

•Monica Shae Countryman, 18, Ada.

•Gary Gene Givens, 23, Wetumka.

•Rebekah Jane Burgess, 21, Konawa.

About 2:30 a.m., Roberts was driving north in southbound lanes of I-35, just south of State Highway 9, when her car struck a southbound vehicle head-on.

Winton, driver of the car hit by Roberts' vehicle, died at the scene.

Countryman, Givens and Burgess were passengers in Winton's car.

Winton's car spun after impact and struck another southbound vehicle, driven by Alexander Billy Tiger Jr., 27, of Ada, the patrol said.

Roberts, who was in her car by herself, was pinned in her vehicle for an hour and Winton and his passengers were pinned for 15 minutes, the patrol said.

Daniel Jordan Cosar, 17, of Konawa, and Marcus Allen Moore, 22, of Allen, both passengers in Winton's car, were taken to OU Medical Center in critical condition, the patrol said.

Tiger refused treatment at the scene.

All others involved in the accident died at the scene, the patrol said.

Only the drivers of the three vehicles were wearing seat belts.

My son came home to me last night and is so mad. He is beside himself about this. He wonders why it is when someone tries to make their life better and do right that this kind of thing happens. "It isn't fair" he says, "whats the use? Why try?"

I would appreciate anyones comments as to what to say to my son to keep him from beating himself up about this. I have tried, but some fresh thoughts would be appreciated.

Kat, i would tell him sometimes there is no explantion why things bad in life happen, I look at things like that as that when God wants to bring me home, it will be my time!! Not sure if u knew Sheryl ( nascar Cutie) but she was killed by a drunk driver after having batlled cancer twice, and had just lost her father, it was devastating to those of us here that knew her, but we all know she is in Heavan now, and that helps alot!!!!
