MTV is 35 years old!
What are your favorite memories of the Music Television station, from the very beginning and/or the present? In case you were around when it started and want a refresher on the original playlist, here it is. |

Because MTV died when they got rid of great VJs and stopped playing music. |

I loved it when it was music television
too many innovative videos to count really,,,but since it has mutated into the current reality tv wasteland,,,,theres not so much to rave about. but then, the music industry doesn't do a lot of creation these days,, its art is more like overproduced clichés |

Off the top of my head, I remember being enthralled with the Van Halen Hot For Teacher video because of, well, the hot teacher in it

I remember White Wedding by Billy Idol as one of the first Vide I saw. Loved Blondie one way or Another......oh yeah the day when MTV was the schiznics

And that original playlist in the link is Lily white lol.
I'm not sure, but I think that changed with Aerosmith and Run DMC and the Walk This Way remix. |

As I kid I spent way too many hours in front of the tv, mesmerized by the Pretenders, Pat Benetar, DURAN DURAN (they inspired me to start dying my hair and I've never stopped ), Michael Jackson, Prince, etc. The list goes on!

I remember watching MTV in the 80's when I was in high school. I would come home from school and turn on MTV. A big memory I had when they played "Pleasant Valley Sunday". All The Monkees tv episodes in a row. I was a big Monkees fan in the 70's, so it was cool to see that show again.

I used to like the unplugged sessions they
would do occasionally i.e. Nirvana, Eric Clapton and my favorite set by the late great Stevie Ray Vaughn playing a 12 string |

I would come home from school, turn MTV on just so I could see what new videos were out. When they would have a "World Premiere" I had to keep watching until I saw it.
Martha Quinn was my favorite VJ. Loved Headbanger's Ball, YO!MTV Raps, and I had to watch The Video Music Awards. I still remember when Marilyn Manson played and after he was done Chris Rock came out and said "You need to go you azz to church!". I did enjoy shows like Remote Control, Beavis and Butthead, Singled Out and even Real World. But back then they mixed them in with music videos. I know times have changed and music simply isn't what it once was (which is hella sad). But MTV isn't MTV. It's time they renamed the channel. |

They also had a show called Head Trip that didn't last very long, it was sort of like Beavis and Butthead (or MST3K for music videos). At the time I thought it was hilarious. |

I miss Riki Rachtman hosting Headbangers Ball. Alternative Nation was another I liked.
