There are generational power plays at the root of some of this. I remember way back when I was a wee lad, the first big repeating annoyance, was being told I was too young to do whatever it was that I wanted to do.

After that, kids competed with each other, by declaring who was "in" and who wasn't. Who did and who didn't have the latest hot toy, who knew what special rules to the games we played, and eventually, who knew about sexy stuff.

The next stage, was playing one-up games, over who was, and who wasn't STILL playing the "kid" games, and who did and who didn't STILL think the stuff we competed over the day before, was ever really important after all.

Amusingly, this competitive nonsense seems unending. It messes up people trying to ask for help, and people trying to offer it. It's tough to ask for advice from someone who you just insulted as being on old out-of-it idiot, and it's hard to explain accurately why we OOF's are doing things differently to a younger person, WITHOUT dealing with all the labels and tests they've put us through because they have been playing one-up games with us, and with each other in their own generation.

I think I get along with pretty much all age groups.

I think "age" is so subjective compared to the "road miles" people have walked.

I get along with people of all age groups and I never say things like that. I'm not THAT old! LOL Saying something like "when I was your age" is something a parent or grandparent says to their child or grandchild. I don't speak to friends that way, and to be honest I never have with a family member either. I guess it just depends on your personality perhaps. I don't judge people by their age, I accept them for who they are and I don't try to change them.
