Why does people buy luxuriou$$$ things?

For sure; there are several reasons for this behavior. I have always been curious for that.

Thanks for your comments

First can we define " luxurious " what one considers over the top another would consider it the basics.
For example I only buy a certain brand of coffee beans I dont care the cost dont even look. When I travel I bring them along. I have been teased by some others consider it natural.

Same way I travel.

Whether something is a luxury or not is often a judgement call. An opinion.

For example, I ALWAYS buy Charmin. Everything else, regardless of the cost, is like sandpaper to me. So Charmin isn't a "luxury," it is a basic requirement.

And as Rains says, there are certain products in the food area, which I find to be the ones that I like, so I will get them, and not a cheaper alternative that I DON'T like.

If I had the income, I would buy lots of things that some call luxuries. Because they are flat out the only truly useful products for their application.

But there are things which I see some people get, that are just for show, to make them feel better than others, or to establish whether or not they are "in" this year. I'd call those luxuries, and I wont buy any of them, even if I do have the money.

Luxurious things are some of special things of a certain prestigious brand with basic functions + extra elements; sometimes unnecessary ones to a normal function.

why does people spend whole fortunes in certain unnecessary things to live normally?

Rockefeller with a Seiko 5 watch and driving a Toyota??...impossible!

Bill Gates?...I don't know

Well, I think you must realize that some people buy what they do for entirely practical reasons, and others buy what they do for status, or other personal emotional rewards.

One often claimed notion, is that some guys buy luxury cars, expressly to signal to attractive women that they have lots of money. There are lots of other social status related purchasing decisions made.

I frankly don't understand why you are so mystified.

I am not "mystified" as you write down. It's only a simple question for comments. I understand your point. Many people needs only simple, basic and practical things to live comfortably and without problems. Others need another kind of things for differents reasons as you said it.

Thanks for your comment Sir.

People buy luxurious things ......depends on every individual's wants, needs or desires. Possible reasons could be....necessity, people buy something for practical reason because they need it, no matter how expensive ; vainess or status symbol, some people just wanted to look good, a show off; reward for oneself, from time to time people spend much buying a special gift for themselves in recognition of their efforts or achievements, some call it self-pampering; rich people, they have the money and can afford to buy whatever they want.

I think the most simple answer would be: because it makes you feel good.
For whatever reason. Comfort, pleasure, status, quality, self-esteem etc. etc.

Have you priced a tricked out new Lexus lately?

For some they would be in the luxurious category...
Others they would be a decent commuter car.
