Dems urged to retool their guns message Gone, evidently, are the days when Democrats “made a deliberate and conscious decision to walk away from this issue” after Al Gore lost West Virginia in 2000, said Dave Walker, a pollster with Greenberg Quinlan Rosner, at the briefing. Now, Democrats are trying to take advantage of what they see as a polling advantage for incremental new gun laws. Expanding background checks, for example, consistently wins support from eight in 10 Americans in polls — but it’s just one in the “pantheon of defining issues,” Walker said. http://www.politico.com/story/2016/07/democrats-gun-messaging-225722 |

But what about the knives, trucks, cars, busses, airplanes, ropes, bows and arrows, rocks, hammers, axes, drugs and everything anyone has ever killed anyone with ever.

A gun in the hands of a free man frightens and angers the autocrat, not because he fears the power of the gun, but, rather, the spirit of the man who holds it. ANONYMOUS |

Most criminals do not invade home with signs that say trespassers will be shot. |

Not sure what the point is here.
The so-called "gun issue" has always been a lot more complex than the bulk of the popular media have pretended, and it's certainly more complex than the extremists at either end of the common discussions are ever ready to admit. When the infamous so-called "cop killer bullets" were marketed some time back, the NRA suddenly learned that THEY had to rethink their approach to such issues, and learned that they could no longer attract positive responses from the bulk of America by using knee-jerk "shall make no law" rhetoric. It's way past time for the Democrats to realize that saying the same knee-jerk stuff over and over also needs "tweaking." Personally, I'd appreciate seeing both ends of the argument wake up, and realize that there could be agreement in things practical. Such as that, as many so-called "gun freedom" people say, "guns don't kill people, people kill people," And that opens the door to the next logical step, which is not to regulate GUNS, but to regulate the dangerous people, and limit their access to all sorts of things. We need some rethinks from BOTH ends of the spectrum on this stuff. |
