hi. i am a single mom in Toronto. not looking for someone to be a dad to my son but someone for me. why can't guys get that?

I'm a single momma too hard to find good decent men in this world. But when that happens for single parents whomever is involved with the opposite gender need to love respect and accept the child because their happiness counts as well

Belive me Guys get that. That's probably why there are no responses. I have had 3 sons. But they were mine. I raises them. Lots of guys might not like the idea of rasing someone else's children . So maybe you should understand that it's not as easy as you think.

Like it or not if your significant or even insignificant other has to respect that you made a choice to have a child and be a "package deal in your relationships. That they can't be selfish and single minded if they are going to have a place in both of your lives.

That doesn't mean you hand over the reins and honor of being a father figure in your child's life until they make it as your partner first and earn a privilege to be in your child's life but why detour with a loser that doesn't meet all your needs; or at least tries?

Single parents have to put themselves on a higher level as long as the kids need the parent to be a full time parent. Sorry that is th deal you signed up for.

This is the closest so far to what I think. I wouldn't put it so negatively, though.

The thing is, even if the woman (the OP in this case) happens to be in a situation where the child is fully cared for by both her AND the child's actual father, such that the new guy has no "father" role to play, there are still tons of complications to being in a relationship with a woman who has an underage child.

Things like, there can be no such thing as spontaneity. If there's a chance to run off somewhere together, a baby sitter must be arranged, and the child's other parent often has to be notified. Timing of all dates has to take the child into consideration. her home will be off limits for sexual interaction most of the time. All sorts of little things like that.

It's far from horrendous, but if the guy happens to be one of the ones looking for a completely free sense of fun with a mate (very common after a first marriage failure), the BEST of that kind of guy (the most responsible) wont want to dive back into all the difficulty of being married, with none of the benefits guaranteed. And any guy who IS willing to get involved with a mother, and who DOESN'T want to take the child into consideration, is the dreadful sort of human being who will make life horrible for everyone.
