I think I also have to agree with altronssj4 on this one. Everyone has two sides and eventhough they may say that they want to be a friend, companion, partner, drinking buddy, etc...but they're afraid to let people in on a personal level. How good of a friend can you truly be to someone that you only know half of? There are a lot of people out there with trust issues and shame on the people that made them that way.

Real people, so who do you think is typing this ?.................

On a serious level, I know where you're coming from and have to say that it is a sad reflection of society that makes people afraid to trust each other. I also agree with the view that you cannot fully trust all those you meet on the internet, it would be foolhardy to do so.

BonnyMiss I think it would be easier to understand if I was only talking about people we meet over the internet. I'm talking about people that we could actually reach out and touch on a daily basis.

OMOH, I get your drift. This is a complex issue, here is my take on it as I see it. It is a sad reflection of today's standards. But; our society has become a throw away society. If people can walk away from the sacred institution of a marriage, watch programmes that are geared at insulting each other " yo mama etc" and flout promiscuous issues openly on tv, brag about their "other selves" why then should they try to be " real " The goal posts have been moved far too often, society readily forgives " behavioral issues " and all sorts of excuses are dragged out and paraded as to why a child is downright rude. We as parents have lost the ability to correct these issues, and now certainly teachers have no more such rights for teaching our young. If we cannot instill good attitudes/behavior in the young, what chance do they stand growing up to become upstanding " real " people

I think people are not so much "unreal" as they are accustomed to showing only one dimension of who they are....thus appearing pretty shallow.....particularly on the internet...its kind of hard to show a three dimensional personality on a one dimensional board....jmo...

This is the internet, nothing here is real. We are all just a random assortment of sprites and electrons. An interjection of electrons from the ether.

I disagree. We're all real people sitting at our computers. Not some computer generated phantasm. Treat people like people, not like a video game.grumble
