A rural Colorado school district is standing by their policy of allowing atheist and satanic brochures, despite recent protests from some Christian parents.

On Friday, members of the Western Colorado Atheists and Freethinkers will be placing atheist and satanic brochures inside the libraries of middle school and Delta High School in Delta, Colorado, according to CBS Denver.

“We want our kids to be able to access different types of materials, for example, 4-H and Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts. Once we do that, we cannot discriminate against any other groups being able to distribute that material,” said Pastor Greg Teel of the Calvary Baptist Church.

School officials said they currently allow non-violent, secular material inside school libraries, including the Bible.

A lawsuit was threatened if school officials did not allow the group’s literature into schools.

“People either love us or hate us, and that’s perfectly fine. People are entitled to their opinions. We don’t appreciate the death threats,” said Aleksandr Kolpakov, president of the group.

Kolopakov said parents of non-religious students could reach out to the group for support.

“People of any denomination can feel safe in the schools, they can feel that they don’t have to bend to a single religion,” Kolpakov said.




*Some people may not realize this has been going in for a few years in the USA. And even longer in other parts of the world*

The problem is that it is fair. Free Speech in the US applies to all speech not just the speech people like. If Christian Bible can be given to student or are allowed in schools then all other religions must be allowed to be distributed in school as well.

Wtf? The Bible isn't given out in schools.

We have ' separation of Church & State ', here in the USA. NO religion of ANY type is taught in PUBLIC schools.

This is why, there is controversy. Because Satanism is a religion & most people are in the top 5 major religious in USA. NONE of which are or should be taught (in Public schools), including agnosticism & atheism (New Age etc).

Although the majority (here) are Protestant Christian, ALL of the top 5, rebuke Satan.
We could have LOTS of angry parents from all the (major) groups protesting this.
After all.. It is up to the parents & the parents alone to raise & teach their own children as they see fit, NOT the state.

absolutely nothing from either side of the *controversy* is being TAUGHT in the
classrooms of Delta HS.....look up the definition of NON-CURRICULAR material... this information is available in the library along with biblical and many other brochures... to students at their OPTION to take or leave....

you also should read again the 1st amendment and what it actually says about the separation of church and state.....

From what I've read of this issue, the school does have the Christian bible available in their library. And now they are going to have atheist literature available in the same way that the bible is available.

I don't know if this should be called 'distribution' in either case; its not like the bible or the atheist material is being handed out to each individual student, its just being made available in the library.

Edit: I wasn't able to confirm that truly satanic literature is involved, does anyone have a link that documents the actual publication titles? Maybe some blogger confused LaVey's "Satanic Bible" (an atheist book that does not condone devil worship) with actual devil worship.

Most atheists do not believe in any devils, and generally do not want to promote that kind of mythology. However, there is a book titled "The Satanic Bible" which advocates for a particular brand of atheism confusingly called LaVeyan Satanism:



I'd wager some Christian blogger saw the word "Satanism", did not know of LaVey, and ran with their mis-understanding. And now other bloggers are claiming that "Satanic" brochures are being handed out, leading people to think that the brochures advocate for devil worshiping.

I found the actual so-called "Satanic" pamphlet in the newscast.

I was wrong about a Christian blogger being the cause of the mis-understanding, the actual news channel ran with "Satanic" without any clarification.

I don't really get why these atheists call themselves 'satanic'. Previously, most people accepted that the term 'satanic' meant 'devil worshiping'.

And if they don't have boobs, genitals, or swear words, they'll soon be as dusty and unused as all the other books until a teacher forces students to use them as a source for a term paper.

Of course a Christian Pastor might say something like that. Both 'The Boy Scouts Of America '& '4H' were originally Christian based groups.

i fail to see a problem here... i'm atheist and very open to everyone reading and studying every form of religion they can... you can't make an informed opinion without any knowledge...


studying religions is what made me an atheist, just the blatant hypocrisy showed me it's just another form of control, probably the first and oldest form...

Most atheists I know are deep thinkers moved primarily by an earnest desire to explore honest (delusion free) ways of understanding reality.

So I didn't want to believe that this group would act on some childish emo desire for attention.
