yes i have seen a couple but not all resurface
i do not begin many threads but if i get one deleted i will repost it simple as that -------------------- as far as the automatic i think if it gets 10 views without nomination it is dropped from moderation but if it is nominated for deletion it stay till either 7 vote delete or 4 vote to save |

Hey, Massage, good to see you here....!
As to your question, I wouldn't vote for deletion, but ONLY because I refuse to participate either way. I feel like it's not my job to say what should or should not be posted; but I have no problems with others who do vote either way. It's strictly a personal choice. In the specific type of incident you mentioned, I think it would be better if the people posting the personal ads could be informed/educated before any threads were deleted. A lot of people come from other sites where this sort of thing is permitted, even encouraged, and if they don't understand the way JSH works, I can see where a new person might not have any reason to see this site as markedly different from the others. Having said that, I will add that I have no desire to read that sort of post anyway, so it wouldn't exactly worry me if those did get deleted. I don't spend much time in Sex & Dating, anyway. But I just think it would be better to give a newbie the benefit of the doubt, and a little bit of site-specific information, before resorting to deletion. |

yes fanta and he has emailed me that as well
but i still email blatant abuse cases to them cause it just aint right and i know it has cost some new members they said they were going to leave in their thread that is why i quit comment to the delete happy haters in a new persons thread and email the link to mike or van one of those new members that left may have been your match or worse yet my match |

i seen your post in the personal ad thread of which you speak
i did not see a problem with it you stated your opinion and explained why i think that was a stand up thing to do and should be mandatory in other reason deletion nomination |

Lex,
Good points. I used to always PM a newbie whose thread was about to disappear, tell them why, encourage them to repost (different section, or different phrasing), but since my net access has changed all that PMing would now quite a chore for me. Wouldn't it be great if JSH automatically sent a gentle, explanatory email to the person whose thread was deleted? And also - I wonder if it would help if the people who voted had to explain why -in their own words- (hopefully kind words), and those explanations got sent to the OP. just thinking out loud here.... |

I am glad you brought this up, adj. I have been irritated to see some perfectly respectful and legitimate posts nominated for deletion. It tends to really become a bit juvenille in some instances. Do moderators allow personal problems to sway their decisions to "delete" or "don't delete"?? I would hope not, but I have definitely wondered at times. That would be CRAP!

Fanta,
My understanding is that moderation is not really supposed to be about our personal opinions of a thread - it is a chance for us to help Mike/Van keep the boards clean of items deemed inappropriate. Ultimately, its for Mike/Van to decide what's inappropriate. Certainly there is grey area, and for that I'm also interested in other community members' opinions. OTOH, multiple posts of the exact same thread in the same section is a clear cut, unambiguous case of something that should be removed - per Mike/Van. You can abstain, but if you vote to keep you are directly using the moderation system contrary to its purpose. I was joking & exaggerating about having your voting rights removed, but making a real point - that 'mis-using' the system goes both ways - frivolous delete votes, and inappropriate 'keep' votes. --- My reason to vote no is as good as yours. In general, yes - possibly better. But here at JSH, the fact that the site is own by Mike/Van means puts them in the role of "ultimate moderator" - so in a way their reasons are more important than either of ours. |

Of course - wrongly voting to keep a duplicate isn't really a big deal compared to pulling the rug out from under a confused newbie.
