it seems like perhaps better training is one of many possibilities to decrease the numbers killed in the line of duty

not that it will create a utopia where no officer ever dies, just about every job with any danger has deaths,,from fishing to electrician

but training, as in other occupations, most likely counts for something

Another possibility could be for parents to bring their kids up right and not let them put that stolen gun in their waistband when they go out at night.. because.. well.. bad things happen when you do that.

You know.. teach them right from wrong

That could also lead to a decrease in police being killed... couldn't it?

in an ideal world, the absence of people committing crime would irradicate police killings and the need for police at all

but until we raise humans so none commit crime, I think a more immediately impactful solution may be better training for cops

I'm not talking about overall crime, I'm talking about killing cops. And I'm not talking about the "no crime fantasy Island" that you may envision.. I'm talking about the streets.. as in now.

Better training in what?. Dodging bullets?.. ducking?" All the training in the world would not have stopped the police murders that have happened over the last year. Cold blooded murders. Many times thep didn't even have time to take his gun out.

I agree with you on one thing.. yes we need to raise humans.. not raise the animals that are out there.. armed.. and looking for trouble.

the problem with that is the culture subconsciously reinforces the idea that certain races are automatically 'animals' and especially dangerous if armed(Which is allegedly a right)

the better training I refer to is in the culture , whatever culture, they are assigned to serve and protect, and in deescalation, and non fatal defense

that's a more immediate solution than the up to 18 years it takes to 'raise' anyone,,,

better training at home is the start to minimalizing all crime, including violent

and better training in the force is the start to minimalizing fatal deaths in police interactions that are part of reality and part of their job

In case anyone wants to use facts to talk about this, here's some:

http://www.factcheck.org/2016/07/killed-in-the-line-of-duty/

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2016/07/12/grieving-dallas-awaits-obama-as-protests-churn-in-other-cities/

This is not at all a simple issue of a Democrat refusing to acknowledge problems that previous Republicans have. There is no difference between the parties on this. In each year when it has been made an issue, whichever party was in charge, spoke on it negatively, and which ever party was out of power, accused the other one of ignoring it.
