I have a cat that's about ten years old. He's healthy, as far as I know, but I noticed that he'll sometimes sit and slightly rock back and forth. I just recently noticed this, so I don't know if it's something he does all time, or if he just starting doing it. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me why he might be doing this, or if it's something I should worry about.

I've had other cat before, and they've never done this, that's why I'm wondering what it means.

LOL, I do notice it when I'm listening to music, but I've noticed it a few times when it's quiet.

He'll rock forward and backward, it's not very noticable when he does it though.

Ive been doing cat rescue for many years now and have never seen that.

Hopefully it's a personal quirk of your cat you never noticed, but...
I'd keep my eye on it for a week or so, and try to be observant of any other changes. If it continues or becomes more frequent, I would definitly take it to a vet.

totage,
When was the last time he had a check up? Maybe it's time to have an annual check up and run a blood panel, just to see how things are going internally.

I think maybe his eyes aren't too good and he does that to adjust. Does he ever focus on anything while he is doing this? I had a pet rat once that swayed back and fourth when sitting on your chest. I have read that this is to adjust, because he had pink eyes, he wasn't able to see too well. It really freaked out my ex-girlfriend when he did that. Kind of looked like a cobra.

OH yeah, and I also learned that cats don't like microwaves, battery acid, fire, bb guns, pellet guns, guns guns, or Wayne Newton.

i've never seen a cat with it's ass planted rock back and forth in the plane of it's spine unless it is engaged in an activity which makes to purpose of the movement obvious

head bobbing i have seen... often related to the below, but often for reasons inscrutible... at 10 years of relationship, this doesn't happen :|

in cats without an ass plant, i've seen that for a variety of purposes... but the major one is to get a visual lock on something (prey, for example)

perhaps the cat suffers from parkinsons :|
