I could not locate a financial forum area,
... This may only relate to those of us who are over 55 or so..
I heard on the news this morning that 14% (of Albertans), higher rates nationwide.. of us are cashing in our investments.. due to shaky financial markets...

You take the hit of taxes and ?what
I am not into tax deferring... its a pay me now & pay me later concept.
My preference is to invest with after tax dollars..as in I dislike RRSP's..these just defer paying tax.
I cashed in some 2 years ago to re-invest elsewhere... If I cashed them in today, I would have lost even more..
Save up your cash and invest that
I can see my re-investment working for me..

Tax deferral ... that is what RRSP's are good for.

They are really good for people with fluctuating incomes. Not good for average middle class folk or upper class folk with steady incomes. Poor cannot afford to even try to use them.

Capital gains avoids more tax than income investments and that is a bonus for the richer folk. Our system is set up for them. I agree with the guys that say we should reverse those things if we are really wanting to support economic growth and well being of our citizens. Income should be less taxed and capital gains heavily taxed to stop this inflationary property market. People are bordering on being priced out of property ownership and that is wrong. The wealthy have taken over and now hold everyone else in the grips of inflationary rents and leases. Our government has been bought.

Sorry if I ramble... but I see no future for the youth of this world if we do not change these economic robber baron policies.

Its true you cannot live in an RRSP...and I see kids today paying huge rents , almost equal to two months mortgage payments on a modest house...they lack that crucial down payment. If the rules were slackened a bit, many more kids would be able to get their foot in the real estate market, and be independent of their older parents.... Real estate is about the only good investment left.....the rest is a crap shoot....
