I very sorry about this but I have to say something. I do not wish to cause a fight or argument or I am real inrterested to find out what religious people think....

About the fact that we have a mainly Chrtistian based world population but that is because when Christianity was forming, anybody who didn't want to believe was burned at the stake or run through with a sword?

From vexen.co.uk:

Nearly every culture that came into contact with Western Christianity tolerated and accepted Jews until Christianity spread its violent anti-Jewish message across the West. Only with Christian principles was anti-semitism made possible, culminating in the atrocities of the Nazis during World War 2. No other religion has hated the Jews as much as Christian communities.

The Dark Ages, encompassing the Spanish Inquisition, the Burning Times witch hunts, etc, was the time in which Christianity had complete control over the imagery and information people could come into contact with. Anti-Semitism spread from Christianity, through many stereotyped and falsified stories, to the whole of Europe and wherever else the Christian message spread at that time.

Look at that, 20 views and no response. I didn't mean to embarrass anybody. It just that i noticed a while back....

Most of the Christains that I know will go to church, they will pray, they will openly talk about their faith. But they dont behave like Christians, they dont turn the other cheek when something goes wrong. They do not stop to help the unfortunate homeless person, they do not display freedom of race and sometimes even gender.

I am not saying you all do. I am just saying that it all seems very hippocritical and I don't understand why people will openly abuse their religion when they have no intention of following its principles.

haha yes thats a good point, vexen is clearly of a biased view. but the facts are true. Christianity was forced on a lot of people on pain of death.

Christians are not generally kind> I dont understand, apologies but I thought that was one of the foundations of the faith?

New - you probably had so few responces because the nature of the conflict stems from the foundations on which Christianity is based.

I don't belive that the majority of those proclaiming a belief in Christianity, today, have such obesessive or compulive feelings specifically toward Jews.

What I have seen is that a relatively small number feel a driving and obessive compulsion to 'defend' anyone or any group who would blaspheme their God, which is inclusive of Jesus.

I consider those people to be fundamental extremeists. While most Christians might walk away when they realized there were unreconcileable differences, the extremeists are so obesessed that their actions can be irradic and irrational.

Therein, lays the issue that the non-Christian world faults all of Christianity with.

Some feel the need to prove to their God that they would defend that God to the extreme, whether that be murder for, righteousness sake, or their own death which the feel, somehow, to be consistant with the matyrdom of Jesus.

Obesession; because the idea that God can not defent itself is totally irrational. It also defiles the basic idea of why Jesus is and can be the only martyr of the faith.

I don't see any blasphemy, just bad history.

The inquisition resulted in between 800-2000 executions. One thing that people seem to forget is that Protestants were also persecuted during the Inquisition. The inquisition lasted 140 years, so 2000 people over that period of time is hardly a mass scourge.

All excellent points thank you. Although with the Inquisition, I am certain that it is not the only example of the problem I was asking about. I think it was just the example given by our satanic author at the other website. There are a lot more atrocity examples over the years.

I get you with the extremists Redy. I guess its a blessing that extremists from the Christian faith are not as extreme as from some other religions.

Thanks for all your answers.

MOst of the religions that have existed in the world at some point have killed in order to defend their beliefs.
Why every single argument has to focus just in christians.
Muslims and Jews are doing it now, today. How many christians are being killed in this moment in countries where the majority is muslim.
If inquisition prosecuted protestants, also it would be good to mention all the catholics that were prosecuted by protestants in Ireland.
God bless the Irish people for being strong enough to defend their faith.

Christian means to be "Christ like" What some fail to see is that just because you go to church does not mean you are a christian.
It is a sad fact there are hipocrits Everywhere, People want to feel safe, and yet they have NO relationship with God at all because if they did they would not act the way they act.
Go to church on sunday and swear, get drunk, go to strip clubs exc.
It is very sad to say that in the dark ages most were uneducated and most churches the Bible was only read by the preists, so when the crusades came along they went on with too much zeal and not enough knowlege and training on how to be proper christian witness'.
As far as the witch Burnings are concerned, they took things out of context that evil must be purified with fire.
Don't really know where in the Bible that hails from but also remember that they had really dumb tests to see if people were a witch.
Tie a person to a rock and if they rise they're a witch and if not we pray for an innocent soul.
People are people and every religion has its overly zelious to Convert others.
Now the problem is what I had brought up before which is people who think going to church will make them a christian and they dont have to follow the rules.
so because people in a church are doing things and not acting christlike it turns off people who honestly want to seek God.
I have had trouble with a church I went to and I don't blame God one bit because it is the people's actions that are hurting me Not God.
My mother told me not to loose faith in God and I told her I would never loose faith in God, Just my faith in people.

"The inquisition resulted in between 800-2000 executions"

spider i dont know which inquisition ur talking about as there were several and resulted in the deaths of sevral million people over a several centurys, even though it took a while the inquisition is statistically worse than the holocaust due to the fact that the world population at the time was so much lower

and has anyone mentioned what christianity did 2 rome? ouch

I agree newfuture. Those people are the same reason I dont take the bible at face value. If they were willing to kill people why wouldn't they be willing to leave out things they didn't believe or change things all together. I don't know if people are aware but when Catholicism started there were several different groups with different beliefs. In the end one of them won and became the main church. That man church did away with parts of the other groups teachings they didn't agree with, such as the gospel of Judis. I love watching history channel and discovery channel stuff on religion.
