Topic: Project to clean our oceans from plastic | |
---|---|
Just stumbled upon this on FB. What a great project! Trust us Dutchies to come up with such a plan If it concerns water, we're the ones you want.
I hope it works out so all our oceans can be cleaned up. And hopefully people will finally learn to not use our oceans as a garbage dump. "He claims that it would cut the time required to clean up the oceans from millennia to mere years..." Wouldn't that be great?!!! http://www.gizmag.com/ocean-cleanup-project-dutch-waters/41104/ |

I hope the Dutch are successful! Yeah me too. I didn't know one of the worst poluted places in the ocean was near Korea/Japan Anywho ... wouldn't it be wonderful if all that plastic chit was out of the oceans! A good start to a cleaner and healthier planet! I'll gladly drink to that |

Yep ... I can't remember how many tons and/or miles of plastic 'reef' we got floating out there, but it's insane. And why we produce so much plastic to begin with is beyond me. I know most western countries are beginning to become more and more environmentally friendly, although we're nowhere near being there yet. But I think 3rd world countries still produce and use tons of plastic, more than we do. Over here shops tend to not have plastic bags anymore. So you can either bring your own durable bag or buy one there. I remember in Indonesia they put a thin plastic bag around everything and anything you bought. Albeit a single sowing needle or an apple. Not sure they've changed their ways in such countries yet? Oh well... this is project will be a bloody good start to A) clean up and B) create awareness. |

I'd never heard of it Hooray for Obama! An entire continent not using such things anymore, must make a helluva difference! Not sure if we have that stuff in products here too. Seriously never heard of it. |

Yeah, that's what I thought as well... We do have toothpaste etc with those 'grainy' things in 'em. What idiot would come up with plastic micro beads? They should hang him/her/them... Thick as two planks. Even a 4 yr old would understand that it isn't really a smart move |

I hope the Dutch are successful! Those Dutch researchers should investigate this process of turning plastics back to oil... The oceans could really pay off for them! (has another drink) http://www.alternativesjournal.ca/science-and-solutions/plastic-oil |

(has another drink) http://www.alternativesjournal.ca/science-and-solutions/plastic-oil We'll prolly sell all the plastic we collect to the Japanese who will sell it for profit as oil to Canada. That way we won't risk the Middle East or US getting upset that we take away their oil profits. They'll either attack Japan or Canada, and leave us be The Dutch are a traders people, not warriors. And we're real good at water chit. We have to to keep our own country dry, lol. |

Plastic is a product of oil... as well as other products you wouldn't believe, use, or eat if you knew.... google is your friend. Products containing oil products (partial list) http://www.ranken-energy.com/products%20from%20petroleum.htm |

hopefully people will finally learn to not use our oceans as a garbage dump.
...They'll just use the land...which there's far less of...and ever increasing demand for. Burning it releases all sorts of bad stuff. "Recycling" is a misnomer as it just delays the plastics becoming waste since most of it can't be reused for its intended purpose. e.g. soda bottles. So...good for that guy that wants to move tons and tons and tons and tons of plastic from the water to the land. As long as water looks pretty and gives people a false sense of accomplishment...Hooray! I guess. |

One of the things we need to do in general, is to put a stop to a lot of what might be called double-blind trashing of the planet.
That is, a lot of the big messes are happening because some actors are "outsourcing" their garbage disposal, and pretending that they are not responsible for what the third and fourth-party agents do with the stuff. To stop it, we need to make the originators take care of their own trash, as much as possible. Putting it on a barge owned by a private contractor who pretends they will see to safe removal, needs to be either made illegal altogether, or to require the kind of monitoring that would make people want to find ways to reduce the amount of dumping they do altogether. |

maybe we should spend more money into cheaper space travel and start making a garbage planet or just shoving it into the sun..

maybe we should spend more money into cheaper space travel and start making a garbage planet or just shoving it into the sun.. yea, make a space elevator and we have a mega disposal. |
