ok i just got this 8 month old puppy from my aunt, puppy's name is lilly, she goes to sleep, but she scares me when she's sleeping, i dont know whether shes dreaming or havin seizures. she convulses, her breathing gets harsh, and she sleeps thro it all! any ideas?

it's probably puppy nightmares......if her eyes are open a lil just make sure there not rolled up inside her head.....if not she is probably having nightmares........you might want to just push her a lil and wake her up...she will go right back to sleep if not a seizure.

call a vet and ask them. She could be having night terrors, or seizures are possible too. Animals are like people in that when adjusting to a new environment sleep usually suffers the most. Call a vet and I'm sure they will tell you to just watch her and if it doesn't calm down soon, just take her in so they can look her over. If you think it could just be bad dreams, try stroking her gently and soothingly like you would a child you saw having a bad dream and see if that helps calm her down.

normally her eyes are all the way open when this happens, but they're not rolled up in her head.

I had a dalmation that in her sleep would jerk, make sounds and such and her breathing was weird as well, believe it or not, dogs have rem dreams. I don't know what they dream about, but they do.

if i pet her while this is goin on, she calms down but as soon as i quit she starts again..she scares me so bad when she does that

I don't know how you believe, but I believe that animals are psychic. She could be playing with other animals spirits while she sleeps.

they'd have to be psychic, they know what the other animal wants with no verbalizations

if she calms when you pet her, its not a seizure. I think it may be what I said on my last comment, she may just be playing with other animal's spirits while she's sleeping. I noticed that you have a baby, I believe that children and animals are the most psychic of beings. Is your child usually asleep with this happens? They could very well be playing together.

well, my only advice would be to let her vet know what is going on. I have had friends where their dogs have epilepsy and they have medicine for that. My question would be how is she while she's awake and going through her day?

You know, we all live somewhere that someone has died in or near. There may have been other animals died there that she's playing with. There could also be even human spirits that she plays with.

It probably wasn't in your house specifically. We all live on old land, so the probability of someone dying there is pretty high.
