“Lone Wolf”

As I look over the valley below.
I think about this plateau.
When I first got here I was alone.
I had crossed the prairies into the unknown.
I was hunger looking for food and place to sleep.
I approached a pack of wolves feasting on sheep.
They offered to share with me there food and den.
Each time a Lone Wolf came along again.
Each was taken in with food and a soft howl.
Only if one got out of line would they hear a growl.
The prairies we would roam till the morning light.
And sit and howl at the moon each night.
But slowly the pack started to thin.
They had found a mate within.
And slowly they pulled away.
And went there own way.
And found there den to call home.
No longer alone would they roam.
I sat and gave my howl of approval to each.
Always I gave my best wishes speech.
As I roamed these prairies soon I begin to realize.
Being the Lone Wolf I should come customize.
That it was meant for me to roam alone.
Even though it seems within this pack I found a home.
My destiny was to greet the lonely and to guide.
Remind them to strive forward with pride.
Always be there to lend an ear, and a shoulder.
Teach them to howl at the moon and learn to serenade.
For you see within this heart.
It is filled with pride to watch each make a new start.

From one wolf lover to another...that was beautiful Kristi. I always feel I am with them in some way or another myself. Long live and long save the wolves.

As a supporter of Defenders of Wildlife and someone who cares about sound wildlife management, I strongly urge you to withdraw your support for the use of aircraft to hunt and kill Alaska's wolves and bears.

Alaska is well known for its amazing wildlife and stunning natural beauty. It is appalling that your office and others in the state government continue to sanction the brutal aerial hunting of the state's majestic wolves and bears in nearly 60,000 square miles of the state.

As I am sure you are aware, aerial hunting was outlawed by the federal government in 1972. Yet Alaska officials continue to skirt the law and permit aerial hunting, claiming that this terrible practice is necessary for wildlife management -- an assertion that is not supported by available data on wildlife population numbers.

This unwarranted program often leads to inhumane deaths, with hunters in low-flying aircraft shooting down wolves or chasing them to exhaustion, and landing and killing the animal at close range. In some cases, wounded wolves escape, only to experience a slow, painful death.

This program is an embarrassment to the State of Alaska. Alaska's voters have twice rejected the use of aircraft by private hunters to kill wolves. It's past time that state officials listen to Alaska's citizens and put an end to this brutal and unnecessary program.

Thank you for considering my comments.

Thank you very much for your commments glad you all liked it actually was asked why I portrayed it with a Wolf and not another animal like a Bear or Deer ect........ Well for me reason was due to a Wolf is one that will travel alone and still be content , yet a pack of wolves will accept a lone wolf and when within the pack they look out for each other and when they mate with them at times they will go there own way. Were most animals are one way or the other. bigsmile
