Do you believe recent earthquakes in midwest states are primarily caused by fracking or just natural occurrences?

I always thought they were caused by cows farting in unison.

I read that it is absolutely certainly the fracking. At least, the huge increase in the number of them that took place after the fracking started, is due to fracking.

When quakes go from less than a dozen a year or so to hundreds a year, and the only change is that fracking is going on, it's pretty sure.

None of the above

"For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows."

You may want to write that down. ...You being so opinionated like the rest of us forum personalites.

laugh Thanks for sharing

You do realise, there's a massive faultine, several, in the "Midwest".

Long before fracking, 1847, there was an earthquake in the Midwest. So strong, that it permanently changed the course of the Mississippi River.

Again, I blame dirty hippies for the hysteria.

Uh, do you realize that there is a difference between fracking and injecting waste-water from fracking into wells? The latter is being blamed for earthquakes, not the latter.

Uh, do you realize that injecting water into the wells IS fracking?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydraulic_fracturing

It isn't how dirty the water is that matters. The process of injecting high pressure liquid into deep ground structures is fracking, and it IS what has been determined to be causing an INCREASE in quakes in the midwest.

And yes, there is a well known fault area there. However, if you actually USE your brain, recognizing that something is already structurally unsound, should be a reason NOT to pummel it even more. Not a reason to ignore the fact that when you pound on a loose piece of ground, prone to violent movements, that you might just be a suicidal nutcase.

Oh! Em! Gee!

We're all gonna die! scared

Look at all the areas where fracking isn't, that have had increases in seismic activity...

...
Yes, people,
Fracking caused the extinction of the dinosaurs.
Fracking caused the 'potato famine' in Ireland.
Fracking caused the famine in Ethiopia.
Omg! Fracking caused global warming!
Evil fracking, even stole the frenchfries outta yo' happy meals, when you were a kid.

Yup!
Anytime an area, with a known history of violent seismic activity, has the slightest 'jolt', blame humans.

Frick fracking. The gravitational pull of the moon has more effect on earth tectonics than fracking ever possibly could. Just another myth libs believe.
They're so gullible.laugh

Actually, during "Cat Week" I went around the world in order to sample every cat known to Man.

By the way, do you know why the Acinonyx jubatus is always poor?
Answer: Because cheetahs never prosper.

If an energy group is conducting geothermal fracturing in the area of the quake swarms or has done so in the past, then yes. You'd have to be an idiot to think otherwise. These companies state upfront that low magnitude quakes will occur. The quakes occurring are larger than what they have forcasted.

If the cracks go vertical/perpendicular toward the surface, drinking water can get contaminated with the chemicals injected alongside the water. They say a close eye is kept on this and pressure taken off if needed. Well, this didn't work for oil & gas ,using fracking, as they have contaminated drinking water.

its scary if a person's home is devastated due to a natural disaster as an earthquake. people staying beside an active volcano are always extra careful.
