One of the many ironic elements of how humans interact (other species do this too!), is that actually and openly sincere beings, often trigger the opposite reactions from their mate targets that both wish to have happen.

It takes a long time to work out why, because it's very subtle and complicated.

The reality of us is such, that a lot of comedians make a good living by pointing out things such as that most humans don't actually go for honesty. Most of us go for the exact right kind and character of lies that we've come to expect, and recognize as signals that we and the potential mate are on the same wavelength.
