'Blue Lives Matter,'
- LA Times http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-police-community-rally-hollywood-20150926-story.html/ California: LOCAL L.A. 'Blue Lives Matter,' police and supporters say at Hollywood rally Annie Bergin, 34, of Los Angeles was among 100 people who gathered in Hollywood on Saturday to show support for police officers. (Louis Sahagun / Los Angeles Times) Waving American flags and holding up signs that read “Blue Lives Matter,” about 100 Los Angeles police officers joined members of the community at a rally in Hollywood on Saturday intended to show support for the department at a time when crime is spiking and the ambush killings of police officers in cities elsewhere have left authorities across the nation feeling under siege. The demonstrators gathered first in front of the CNN building on Sunset Boulevard and later at the nearby Hollywood Community Police Station. Motorists, including patrol officers and firefighters, expressed their appreciation by honking horns and sounding sirens. Demonstrators gathered in front of the CNN building on Sunset Boulevard and later at the nearby Hollywood Community Police Station. Among the demonstrators was Annie Bergin, 34, of Los Angeles, who held up a poster that read, “They bleed blue.” Interested in the stories shaping California? Sign up for the free Essential California newsletter “There’s something weird and scary going on right now – police are being assassinated,” she said. “I’m here to show that I strongly support the LAPD and law enforcement officers everywhere who risk their lives each day to keep us safe.” The event was organized by the Los Angeles Police Protective League as part of an effort to counter demonstrations nationwide in the aftermath of several high-profile police killings of unarmed civilians, and to decry the fatal “ambush” shooting of an officer in Houston a month ago and the similar killing of two New York City officers in late 2014. LAPD Chief Charlie Beck made a brief appearance at the rally. “This is just the beginning of a nationwide campaign,” said Jerretta Sandoz, vice president of the 10,000-member Police Protection League. “We’ve reached out to police unions in New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Houston and many other cities and they are all on board. “Now, we’re searching for a unifying catch phrase and symbol that will send this message: Enough is enough,” she said. “There’s just too much negativity throughout the country related to police work.” John Redican, a patrol officer with the LAPD’s Newton Division, agreed. “Police are being marginalized and demonized by a small segment of society with views that are magnified by the media,” Redican said. “This event is an attempt to mitigate that perception by showing that a majority of people understand that we are out there trying to keep the wolves away from our doors.” August was the deadliest month in Los Angeles in six years. Speaking at an emotional news conference on Friday, Mayor Eric Garcetti appealed for patience with his administration’s 5-month-old police strategy intended to suppress spiking violence, saying it would take time to show full results. That approach, which involves deploying hundreds of additional elite police officers into troubled neighborhoods and increasing funding for gang-intervention programs, has prevented an even sharper rise in violence, Garcetti said. Police are being marginalized and demonized by a small segment of society with views that are magnified by the media. - John Redican, of the LAPD's Newton Division In the meantime, Anna Strongwolf, 43, of Los Angeles has her mind made up. “There’s far too much negative junk directed at officers who keep us safe from anarchy,” said Strongwolf, who would identify herself only as a police officer. “I get emails alerting us when an officer somewhere in the United States was killed in the line of duty. “Not long ago, I got two in one day,” she said. “This has got to stop.” louis.sahagun@latimes.com Copyright © 2015, Los Angeles Times |

There are some communities where residents are painting a blue stripe, maybe 3" wide, on the curb in front of their houses. In rural areas like mine, some people are putting blue ribbons around mailbox posts, etc.
https://www.facebook.com/LEOSafeHarbor I gotta find my "Thin Blue Line" bumper stickers. |

doesnt the photo kind of show how much blue lives matter?
I mean, yes, all lives matter, blue lives matter,, etc,,,, but where in the system has it been implied otherwise? is there some history Im unaware of where blue lives were not valued as much as(or more than) any other? its kind of like a movement called 'soldiers lives matter',,, our system kind of already puts that message out there ,,, but everyone has their causes, I guess,,, |

"" ANDERSON, Ind. (September 25, 2015)-
Birthdays are special no matter how old you are. Serynity Ricketts’s 8th birthday was an extra special one. “She’s one of the most understanding 8-year- olds you can come across,” explains Bobbey Ricketts, Serynity’s mom. Serynity wanted a bike but her mom and dad told her money was tight and they weren't going to be able to get her one. Serynity understood. “I mean, we’re still saving pop cans for a cheerleading uniform so she knew it wasn't going to happen,” said Bobbey Ricketts. Serynity’s mom and dad did what they had to do and picked up extra shifts. “I think we were more excited to give her the bike than she was to get it. We surprised her when she got home from school that day,” said Ricketts. The sparkly bright pink and green bike lasted only a day before some neighborhood troublemakers stole it from the backyard. “It was a big melt down. I was crying and she was crying,” she said. “I was sad and mad, too," said Serynity. Serynity’s mom didn’t know what else to do, so she called the police. “I didn’t expect them to anything but maybe paperwork for a stolen bike or theft. I was amazed they showed up in the first place,” Ricketts said. After officers left, Serynity’s family looked throughout the neighborhood for a few hours but had no luck. Right before bedtime, Anderson Police Officer Matt Jarrett showed up with a brand new bike that looked just like the stolen one. Officer Jarrett got hugs from Serynity. Serynity’s mom got a heart-to-heart from Officer Jarrett. “He has a daughter and if her bike were to be stolen-- if he was ever faced with the fact that he couldn't financially replace it-- he doesn't know what he would do, that right there was touching enough for us adults,” said Ricketts. Even at 8 years old, Serynity realizes she got much more than a bike for her birthday. “She woke up the next morning and it wasn't, ‘Mom can I ride my bike?’ It was, ‘Mom that officer is amazing. He didn’t have to do that,'” said Ricketts. Serynity’s mom said the family went to a football game on Thursday and Serynity hugged every police officer she saw."" http://fox59.com/2015/09/25/anderson-police-officer-replaces-little-girls-stolen-birthday-bike/ |
