Cool Post. Think it is always a good idea to share explanations of holidays and traditions. Brings people closer together in the world when we know more about each other.
Your original question was about some of our personal sacrifice for humankind? I have to say in my experience what sometimes starts out as a personal sacrifice often turns into a personal blessing. Over the years I have done a lot of leadership with "Special Populations" and while it was sometimes a lot of work preparing and presenting pro bono workshops; often having to buy the materials out of limited personal resources the blessing you see when people are able to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps is awesome. When someone takes the seed you planted for them and nurture it in to often great success is such a blessing. Part of the reason I post as much as I do. I think people are basically good. Some take "detours" that seem like a good idea at the time; often just immaturity, or the absence of guidance, but a little "Tough Love" or giving them a bit of a road map can lead to a lot of understanding. Maybe save them from a painful fall. Way I look at it if more would make reinforce that idea that personal sacrifice for others is never wasted even if we don't immediately see the reward. Big reason I have been a "foster" family for kids and sometimes adults who are struggling. Especially the folks who get knocked down by a disability and just need some help leveling the playing field. |
