Hi Debs,

Re. your topic pertaining to Hell.

I believe Hell is mentioned 54 times in the bible:

In the Old Testament:

31 times from the Hebrew “Sheol,” which means “the grave”

In the New Testament:

10 times from the Greek “Hades,” which means “the grave”
12 times from the Greek “Gehenna,” which means “a place of burning”
1 time from the Greek “Tartarus,” which means “a place of darkness”

The bible speaks of the ‘wages of sin’ being death, (Romans 6:23), the same penalty God assured Adam and Eve would be theirs if they ate the forbidden fruit.

Ezekiel 28:18 indicates to me what the final fate of Satan will be, and also Psalm 37:10 “For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be” and Psalm 68.2 “as wax melteth before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God. I understand this to mean that the fire (place of burning) is to eradicate sin.

I do not agree with those like Jonathan Edwards, a Puritan preacher who traveled throughout 18th-century New England proclaiming that "there will be no end to this exquisite horrible misery" of the ever-burning fires of hell

The writings of church father Athenagoras (A.D. 127-190) of Alexandria is the first clue that a departure from the Scripture's holistic view of man is on the theological horizon.

Born in Athens, Athenagoras was trained in pagan Greek learning and the philosophy of Plato before he became a Christian. He was the first ecclesiastical writer to publicly embrace the immortality of the soul. Without referencing the Scriptures, Athenagoras advanced his views directly from Plato's philosophical construct. His theology "is strongly tinged with Platonism" ("Athenagoras," Encyclopedia Brittannica, 11th ed., p. 831).

"Athenagoras frequently combined the beliefs of the Greek poets and philosophers, particularly Plato, with the doctrines of Christianity" (Encyclopedia Americana [2001], vol. 2, p. 605).

Tertullian of Carthage (A.D. 160-240), was the first of the church fathers to write in Latin, soon to be the official language of the medieval church. Prior to his conversion at age of 40, Tertullian received a Greco-Roman education in Rome.

Tertullian referred directly to Plato in his writings. Plato's primary theme, "every soul is immortal," became Tertullian's unwavering platform (Tertullian, On the Resurrection, chap.3, quoted in ANF, vol.3, p. 547).

Acts 4:12 and John 14:6.
those verses are silent about God only saving those that "know"
Christ in this life.

Peter 4:6 "For this cause was the gospel preached also to
them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men
in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit."

*bangs head on the table* first a debate about kidneys, now a debate about people praying causing children in Africa to die. I won't be surprised to see a debate about God killing kittens if a person plays with themselves grumble

SOMEBODY SAVE ME AHHHH

So true, Debs, we can always lend a hand if he gets tired.

Where is he today anyway?

Johnnie?

Hope you are having a good day Debs, I worked yesterday morning, so this weekend is going by way too fast for me.

Looked at a house this morning before church, only time I could do it. It was nice, but not quite what I had hoped for.

God bless,

Good morning folks,

Hi Debs, it looks like we will soon be starting a new chapter in the life of the Coffeehouse.

2 Thessalonians 3:4, "... May the Master take you by the hand and lead you along the path of God's love and Christ's endurance." (MSG)

Psalm 16:11, "Now you've got my feet on the life path, all radiant from the shining of your face. Ever since you took my hand, I'm on the right way." (MSG)

Romans 8:38-39, "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (NIV)

Debs, and anyone else who would like to share.

Do you think there is one person living or who has ever lived that knows every word in the bible and its meaning?

Do you think perhaps there is a good reason for that?

I am not usually one for yes and no answers, but in this instance I think they would suffice.
