"alternative" medicine has been studied to death (literally, in some cases), and you know what? It doesn't work.

"alternative medicine" that does work is called, guess... "medicine".

Here's two links that none of the true believers will appreciate, and that those who, I dunno, care more about science than 'My brother's friend's uncle said it worked for his friend's sister's daughter'-like anecdotes will cheer.

You cannot reason someone out of a position they have not reasoned themselves into.

Best forum post I ever read! Should be the Mingle forum motto!

As far as your topic, I pay no mind to alternative medicine. Seems like going to a tent revival and having some one bark out, "You're healed!"

It's a bit like waving your hands over a flat tire and expecting it to reinflate itself. Or giving a ridiculously diluted dose of gasoline and expecting the car to start.

Thanks for the link fixing.

My five year old occasionally gets migraines as a way to help lesson the frequency of his migraines the pharmacist recommended finding out what blood type he is as according to the Pharmacist his migraines could be triggered by foods his blood type cant handle. Here is a link for more info http://www.webmd.com/diet/blood-type-diet. http://dadamo.com/

The only reason a was slightly considering getting his blood tested is when I was informed that Motrin and Tylenol for pain can damage the liver. Sending him to a specialist is also a gamble because of his age the treatment for migraine prevention would be iffy since not many children his age get them.

I think that using alternative medicine for things like cancer instead of the required treatment is wrong. But I have not been in that situation so I don't know it another thing when your in that persons shoes I guess.

I don't think of the blood type diet as alternative medicine; just a healthier way to eat based on the origins/heritage of your blood type. Avoiding white bread, white sugar, drinking healthier types of milk, etc. I liked this diet when I was on it. I'm type A...so soy protein, grains, and veggie are best for me. Used to bake my own bread and stuff like that. I want to get back on it one day. Always felt better on the diet.

A few other people had mentioned they had felt better after following blood type diet guidelines.

I supposes I could run the idea past the pediatrician and see what his thoughts are regarding foods being possible migraine trigger's.

That's best. I never had my children on it, just me.

Go for it. Unless your pediatrician is a naturopath, a homeopath, a sociopath, or Dr. Mehmet Oz (can be difficult to tell the difference, sometimes). If that is the case, get another pediatrician.

Keep in mind multiple possibilities, including the possibility that a 5yr old who doesn't like to eat his peas has discovered that pretending to have a headache gets him out of having to eat his peas. Or anything else unpleasant.

Actually he loves broccoli

He has actual migraines he screams in pain says his head hurts barfs and then goes to sleep. The pediatrician saw him ones while having a migraine he said that is what it is. My friend also watched him while I was at work she called me panicking wondering what she should do.

His pediatrician wrote a doctors note for the school so he can have Motrin in case he has a headache there but they need to call me first.

anything natural is better for you than having some quack dump a bunch of chemicals into your body... doctors have a purpose, but shots and pills aren't the cure all...

It seems that some doctors, pediatricians are trying to incorporate both. Also most pills are initially made from plants http://chemistry.about.com/library/weekly/aa061403a.htm

It's all quackery.
One form is sanctioned, the other isn't.

Um, actually, no. One is based on experiment, learning from failure, and slowly and irregularly advancing. It ain't perfect and they don't claim it is.

The other is horses#!t made up by some clown with nothing on their mind beyond making money off gullible people. They claim it is perfect. They are yankin' your chain. They are lying.

Not all that is natural is bad. Aspirin came from the bark of a willow tree. One of the major complaints about loss of biodiversity is that there's still a lot of things out there we haven't found yet.

Not all that is natural is good. Cyanide is perfectly natural. So's botulism and anthrax.

Finally, no.

Mixing science and nonsense is like mixing an apple pie with a cow pie. It does not improve the cow pie; it only ruins the apple pie.

(That's a quote. I did not originate the above. Think it was Richard Dawkins, but I'm not sure).

Have fun,

S.

Er, everything natural is made out of chemicals. Have you ever eaten food?

Just curious,

Have you tried to make a migraine journal? List down food stuff he eats so that you can trace if his migraines are triggered by any class of food or brand of food, or even an additive in the food item...?

Yuppers I have made a migraine journal its weird because he can go months with out having them then he gets a few in a row then nothing for another few months. I think that his triggers may be weather.Hot weather more though he seems to get them more often during the summer. Although he had a migraine last night there has been a lot of rain the last few days. I think stress may be another trigger he is not big on changes.

We eat a lot of fruits and vegetables also meats and so on. I cut back on caffeine, chocolate things like that.

The kids and I are used to being in the dark during the evening lol . We keep most of the lights off sometimes lights on during a migraine bothers him or loud noises. Lights and noise only bother him if he is having a migraine other wise he is fine.
