do you like your own countries national anthem?
do you feel a sense of pride when you hear it or just think it's a load of rubbish?

and which other nations do you like?

personally i always like to hear NZ's "god defend New Zealand"

also like South Africa for the same reason, that they incorporate the native language(s) into it.

Thanks Owl, but really the haka is my personal preference for New Zealand's national anthem.
I and others identify more with that, than people pretending to be pious and singing what they really do not believe.
Recently they have bought up the suggestion to change our anthem.... Like our flag which failed.

the haka? which one? ka mate is my favourite :)i would have thought the haka is more of a war chant, although i do realise its origins, ( maori offerings etc)

i just like it because it has a nice mix of English and Maori and it has a good tune

im not over keen on "ours" when i say "ours" i mean the UK anthem- 'god save the queen', to me it's rather outdated now and the demographics of our nation has changed dramatically, we are no longer a nation of fanatic royalists, loyal to the crown and all that, and a lot of the population are just plan anti-monarchy so the anthem doesn't go down well with a large percentage of the population.

Scotland and Wales have their own anthems that they use for international sport but yet England and NI still use "god save the queen" (as does NZ, they are greedy happy )

many suggestions have been put forward for the English national anthem, with many people, myself included preferring the hymn "jerusalem"

in fact i think i am right in saying that the UK is the only national anthem about a person?

i dont think they would to be honest, a national anthem should be about that nation, its history, it's future and it's people, not about one person.
that's my opinion on it anyway and although very popular in her time on earth i think her popularity might have waned slightly in death ( after some rumour-mongering which hasn't gone down too well).

The haka is a celebration song of life over death, composed in the 1820's when Te Rauparaha escaped from my child's Iwi ancestors, Maniapoto.

What do you think should be sung in English history that you as an Englishman would be proud of?

well we could sing about how we colonized half the world lol

our history is a good one but also a painful one

"jerusalem" should be England's anthem

"And did those feet in ancient time
Walk upon England's mountains green:
And was the holy Lamb of God,
On England's pleasant pastures seen!

And did the Countenance Divine,
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
And was Jerusalem builded here,
Among these dark Satanic Mills?"

2014-2015 public competition and unofficial vote

In 2014, the Societ suisse d'utilit publique started a public competition for a new national anthem.[5] The instruction was to take inspiration from the preamble of the Federal Constitution of Switzerland. The jury received 208 proposals; it selected six of them and translated them in the four national languages of Switzerland. In March 2015, the six selected proposals were released on-line (with videos in four languages,German,French, Italian and Romansh) and opened to public vote (until May 2015). The best three will be selected for a second on-line ballot between June and August. In September, a televised final will select one song. Finally, the Societ suisse d'utilit publique will propose the winning anthem to the federal authorities.
