It's a First Person Shooter with Role Playing Game elements...so you can level up, get stronger, faster, etc., like World of Warcraft, Oblivion, or whatever RPG you can think of while having the freedom of an FPS game. So you could be a really low level (if you haven't gained enough experience) but based on how well you play FPS games.
Enemies drop items, weapons, and armor that you can use too. Check it out: http://www.hellgatelondon.com/ |

I bought the pre-order on Friday. This game is made by the same team who created Diablo II. They split off from Blizzard and created their own company. This game is the presumptive Diablo III, although Blizzard still claims they will eventually get around to creating Diablo III, the likelyhood is pretty low at this point.

Diablo 3 has been hinted at and I'm sure it will come out some day (maybe the project after Starcraft 2 and the next WoW expansion), but I'm not expecting to start hearing anything about it for at least another 3 years.
Do you know if Hellgate: London is done by the same group who did Guild Wars (I don't really like Guild Wars, though I do have it). |

Wiitard,
Hellgate is being done by the actual programmers who created Diablo II. From what I've heard, they got tired of waiting for Blizzard to greenlight Diablo III, so they left to create their own company. |

Ah, I was just curious if the group that did Diablo II and left to do Guild Wars was the same group that's doing HG: London.
If you've played Guild Wars...it's not cool how you can't go up or down a slight slope if it's "not part of the map." |

Wiitard,
Lots of games have trouble with the z-axis. I have Guild Wars, but I haven't bought any of the expansion and I don't play it. When I game, it's Eve-Online or WoW. I think that Guildwars was created by the team that did Diablo and Hellgate was done by the team that did Diablo II. Also, you can get a preorder which has guaranteed access to the beta. I picked it up for $10 at Best Buy. |

If I had played this game, I would give it two thumbs up.

NDA has been dropped. This game really rocks. The graphics are amazing and the gameplay is pretty smooth. I killed a "Cursed Sumatrain Rat Monkey" today, which is from "Dead Alive" a cult classic movie. I am getting it on Halloween night.

I got this tonight. It's much better than the Beta...guess the Devs were holding out on us.

I'm actually really disappointed with this game...thought it would be more along the lines of a FPS with RPG Elements. Instead, it's an RPG with pseudo-FPS. You can hardly ever miss, and the enemies are way to easy to dodge.
I agree with an online review I read that they pushed this game out to get it's release date. I would've preferred quality over time. I hope they patch and fix it over time. Stats don't matter as much as I thought and I was hoping for discipline based tech-trees, like in Diablo 2, WoW, etc. I'm playing as a Cabalist Evoker, maybe I'll try the Marksmen or Engineer later, and the melee classes sound interesting, but I was really looking for an FPS with RPG level up and powers, not an RPG with pseudo-FPS. ![]() |

OK...just went to play multi-player...downloading a series of patches. Hopefully makes the gameplay better. Let you all know later.

OK...so multi-player is OK...but it is impossible to get anyone to group with you.

I am not much of a FPS fan, so this game works for me. I have noticed that there isn't a real sense of danger, the only times I have died was due to being mobbed. I'm sure that will come around as they patch. It needs to be more deadly than it currently is, but less deadly than Doom or Quake.
There are plenty of enemys with PBAOEs and RAAOEs, so dodge gets harder the higher level you go. Some enemies have attacks which cannot be dodged at all. |
|
|
|
Exactly my point! Some enemies don't have attacks that can be dodged at all, and some enemies attacks are so pathetic that you can dodge all of them, or they don't do anything even if they do hit you.
I guess I wanted a game like Doom or Quake, leaving you in charge of your dodge/crits (crits done by hitting certain parts) but your overall damage, defense, powers, etc., RPGish. What server are you playing on? Wanna party up? |

Server: Shulgoth
