Pelosi Proposes Lowering the Voting Age to 16
Because it would be an awesome civics lessons "and we would like them to register before they leave.”

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) proposed lowering the voting age to 16 years old or 17 years old.

“To achieve what we want to do for the middle class, for kids in school, for immigration reform, for all these things, we must change our politics. We must reduce the role of money in politics. We must dare to do that and so we have a dare, disclose, where is this money coming from, this dark money? Amend the Constitution to overturn Citizens United. Let’s get out there and mobilize and do it. Reform our campaign system to empower small donors and empower voters with a renewed and strengthened Voting Rights Act, removing obstacles of participation,” Pelosi said at the Make the Progress summit sponsored by the Center for American Progress.
“I’m for – and I’m interested in hearing your thoughts, and I know you’ll let me know – for lowering the voting age to high school age, whether it’s 16 or 17 or, because when kids are in school they’re so interested, they’re so engaged, and we would like them to be ready at least to register before they leave.”
In the speech, Pelosi said the economic indicators under President Obama have been “excellent” aside from income inequality. To support her point, Pelosi drew a contrast between Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush and Obama.
“What more of a contrast could you need but Jeb Bush telling the public that people should work harder so they have more money to spend and the contrast with that in our president, President Obama, said people are working harder, we need to pay them overtime so that they can provide for their families,” she said.
“That’s why we must raise the minimum wage, have equal pay for equal work, and our friends in labor have done so much to make that possible, paid sick leave, issues that relate to childcare to unleash the power of women in the workplace because when women succeed, America succeeds.”

Great proposal! I'd add that each cabinet member, Supreme Court justice, Senator, and Congressman should also have the opportunity to personally host some illegal felons in their private homes. In fact, they shouldn't be allowed to vote on immigration matters until they've done their share of hosting of the people they seem desperate to invite to America.

Ooo, I have a better idea for a great civics lesson. Let's declare Nancy's and Barry's post-WH homes sanctuary houses. The next 50 illegal immigrant convicted felons to be deported live with the Pelosis and the next 50 with the Obamas. What could go wrong? Just think of how these 100 people will turn their lives around being so close to greatness. Hill and Bill can easily give sanctuary to 100 felons--no fair if they know them already.

Because collectivist policies only appeal to imbeciles and totalitarians.
16 year olds are functional imbeciles ergo teenage suffrage.

My daughter cast her first vote at age 18 for Obama. When I tease her about this (she's had a change of heart), she states that 18 year-olds should not be allowed to vote.

Only a Socialist like Pelosi can come up with a stupid idea like lowering the voting age to 16 years.

AMENDMENT XXVIII SECTION. 1. The right of citizens of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age.

In other words, I want a single age of majority. "But some are more mature than others!" Well, yeah. But right now Pelosi is making the claim that someone is mature enough to vote, but not mature enough to buy alcohol, cigarettes, or firearms, serve jury duty, register for Selective Service, contract, get married, or be required to buy their own health insurance (until 26!).

So maybe the answer is some sort of "age of majority contract" wherein the individual swears and affirms their majority and can do all of that. If they screw up they are treated like adults. For those for whom adulthood is scary, regardless of age, they can opt out of majority status - but it means they'd opt out of the full list.

A lot of people do not know that Germany lowered the voting age to 18 in 1932, and young people played a big part in putting the NAZIS in power the next year. It was that catchy slogan: Gemeinnuetz vor Einnuetz, common needs before individual needs. See how well it worked?

Voter registration should be tied to a citizen's knowledge test, just like immigrants need to pass to become naturalized citizens. I'll bet that few high-school seniors could pass the naturalization test the day after they graduate. I'd also like to see a similar test requirement in order to vote every four years; add it to the voting process - if you don't know the answers to the test, your vote is canceled.

IMO, that's kind of dangerous - in terms of slippery slopes. Next it will be mental wellness tests. And, we all know that each political party has done a lot to manipulate facts or omit them completely, I would be very afraid to see what a knowledge test includes when written by a Liberal - it would include all my white privilege transgressions...

Lowering the voting age to 18 worked well in helping get Obama elected, lowering it so that dependent children can also vote will seal the deal for never getting out of the socialist society we have sunk to.

Agreed, as I watch my young adult kids grow they have this lofty notion about helping the less fortunate, but also feel the squeeze by those who haven't and aren't contributing. But both, by watching their peers love the thought of a freebie as long as it doesn't affect them -not that they are getting freebies. Would they take a freebie without thinking through the big picture? I'm ashamed to say yes, so they very well could fall prey to this socialized system we're moving toward. I guess the point is, lowering the voting age does nothing to fix problems, it's just going to create more by allowing the inexperienced to make short sighted decisions. I'm not for dropping the voting age, I think it needs to be moved to 21.

Gee, and given that those 16-17 year-old students will be listening to teachers who are usually Democrat-leaning for two months straight before Election Day, who do you think they'll vote for? I remember one of my teachers basically saying non-stop "vote for the Democrat" in presidential election that took place when I was in high school because some of the kids were 18-year old seniors who could vote.

If 16-year olds are responsible enough to vote, I guess that means they're also responsible enough to drink, smoke, register for the draft, serve on juries, be shtupped by their high school teachers (that pesky age of consent), and not have any work restrictions related to child labor laws. After all, they're responsible enough to make informed decisions that that age. Am I right, Ms. Pelosi?

The woman is an idiot, senile or both.
Sixteen is not even old enough to join the military, buy booze or cigarettes and get married in most states.

Clueless children to vote for clueless politicians?
I have a better idea, only allow those people who have skin in the game to vote.
Landowners, taxpayers, people who's lives are most negatively effected by bad governance.
If your source of income is my wallet, you don't get to vote more of it.

NO way.. should this happen, for so many reasons. noway

1- The majority of immigrants (around the world), are 15 year old women. For some reason this age group & sex is more likely to migrate.
(Breeding extinct, to go where it is plentiful? Who knows? Doesn't really matter)
Should any 16-17 yr old girls (or boys) who are not American, nor speak English, read Current Events (Work, go to school, married etc) , have life experience... vote? NO. They should use birth control & hang out at a mall. Geez... they can not be trusted to drive or make good decisions for themselves.

2- We have a lot of immature Americans now. We have 30 yr olds living with parents. We have horrible unemployment & uninsured & 44%+ receiving Gov and/ or state benefits and/ or aid. So how many of them are also 16-17 years old.?

3- We have too many illegal immigrants. That can not vote & should not have the right to. (Nor should our territories, Puerto Rico etc.). How many are 16-17 yrs old?

4- We have too much of the American population that doesn't vote now.
The American under 30 , for the most part...doesn't care. And is only concerned with themselves.

5- This is a DEMOCRATIC move to push MANY of there agendas through. .

I'd rather focus on changing the laws until no one can prevent the existing people of voting age from having their say.

no, let them focus on becoming 'adults' before the 'adult' responsibility of voting

Nancy needs to put the crack pipe down.....

If she really said this she's gotta be so constipated her crap is backed up to her prefrontal cortex. Once you reach this stage even Correctol can't fix it. Are you sure there was just crack in that pipe of hers?

USA- Lower Voting Age to 16 or 17?

Only if those over 55 get 2 votes.

Does she just want 18 year old kids to stop voting?
Cause that's what usually happens.
Kids get excited to vote at 18.
They vote...and see it doesn't really matter.
Then they focus on college, careers, relationships, marriage, oops kids, then when they start getting pissed off they start voting again in their late 20's.

Other than that, it's an amazing coincidence that Obama halted deportations of young illegal immigrants a couple years ago.
