This was an interesting thread. Not trying to re-open it here, I do respect the decision of the moderator, although odd to say the least.

It is for us blokes a very useful way to exchange experiences and is not in any way the same as the reporting system you have in place. You learn of the various ways the scams work and the more users are aware of it, the better that should be for all (including Mingle).

These are two completely different approaches on the same subject. Namely Mingle having become a haven for scammers, and no longer the cool site it was initially.

I thought that was a bit strange also. I wonder why the thread was deleted.

because discussing it openly educates the scammer on how to do it better and be harder to to catch. is the logic being applied by the mods

exactly, and that's why I don't post about this on the forums, it tells them exactly what to do so they don't get copped out next time, and doing this on the forums we are educating the scammers. rant rant rant

I will only talk about this by pm.

Thanks Eric, that is another way of looking at it.
But who educates the users then?

Fortunately, I didn't fall for any of them yet but can easily understand how others could...

simply apply real life logic. would you fall for that at the bar?

Discussing it would also educate the people. I think that would be more important.

I think so too, strange policy of Mingle. I've asked them in a PM to let me know how this adds up...

The site has been working on banning scammers and putting new traps in place. The scammers don't need to know how to improve their game or sites would be back to square one.

For members, it's simple. Don't go off site for a while. There are ways to chat here and off site is out of their jurisdiction. And don't give anyone money.

That's all very understandable, and common sense actually. But wouldn't it be more important for honest users to learn about their tactics than hide the discussion from scammers?

It just boggles my mind that with all of the media coverage, people don't already know this. If people don't send money, then the scam didn't work.

The bar analogy was great. I wouldn't give someone at a bar a lot of money.

But the site has decided the course of action they want to take. They don't need to vote on it. Scammers are like roaches. It is useless to post about it because they would have to start from the beginning when scammers find new scams based on the info.

We have a report system please use it to report all scammers. We ask that members use the system and not the forums for these matters. If you look to the bottom right of your e-mail you will see Report this user click on that and follow the instructions. Those reports go straight to Admin to check out...

We work really hard to keep the scammers out but they still slip in. Report Report any that you feel are scammers. Does not matter if they turn out not to be.....Better safe then sorry.

Never go off the site with those that request it within the first few e-mails. We have free e-mails here no reason too..

With that said this thread is being locked we do not allow members to post names on the forums nor call out other members by who they may be or not be. We ask that you report them so Admin can deal with them!

When threads are started and locked with a Warning this does not mean to go and create another thread of the same type. They are locked down for a reason. Please comply with our actions!
