1 Corinthians 11:5, says that “Every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonours her head, for that is one and the same as if her head were shaved.” The early Christian women veiled their heads in church and anytime they were in public and Christian women continued to maintain this practice to some degree throughout the centuries until the 19th and 20th centuries when the practice rapidly declined. And you know the truth and the truth shall make you free.. |

The neo-christian pastors and teachers have been busy, removing the ancient landmarks and old paths that lead to life eternal because it attracted persecution from satan and his agents. What we have left is adulterated "christianity" that want to "please the jews and influence the Greeks". The "offence of the cross" is clean gone from the pulpits. Alas alas!!!. However, there remaineth a remnant

And you know the truth and the truth shall make you free.. 1 Corinthians 11 10 It is for this reason that a woman ought to have authority over her own[ head, because of the angels. 11 Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. 12 For as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God. 13 Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? 14 Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, 15 but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering. 16 If anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no other practice—nor do the churches of God. 1 Corinthians 11:3-5 3 But I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man,[a] and the head of Christ is God. 4 Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. 5 But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head—it is the same as having her head shaved. Is the covering a hat or veil? The covering spoken of is hair. Men should have short hair and women should have long hair. |

It is supposed to be from that era. I imagine that would be a typical hairstyle. |

Real Islamic Veil I appreciate Christian veil ISIS Veil History[edit] The first recorded instance of veiling for women is recorded in an Assyrian legal text from the 13th century BC, which restricted its use to noble women and forbade prostitutes and common women from adopting it.[4] The Mycenaean Greek term 𐀀𐀢𐀒𐀺𐀒, a-pu-ko-wo-ko, possibly meaning "headband makers" or "craftsmen of horse veil", and written in Linear B syllabic script, is also attested since ca. 1300 BC.[5][6] In ancient Greek the word for veil was καλύπτρα (kalyptra; Ionic Greek: καλύπτρη, kalyptrē; from the verb καλύπτω, kalyptō, "I cover")[7] and is first attested in the works of Homer.[8] I think it is just another man made tradition, nothing Biblical about it. |

I associate the idea of using a head-covering from a facial-veil as two different functions.
One in accordance with scripture is predominantly needed during prayer (Head-Covering) where-as the other is predominantly needed to avoid the gaze of unwanted men. (Veil) It's also important to note that a veil or a partition that may be a fixed feature like a lattice-work wall is implied as a temporary measure while addressing men whom One doesn't necessarily want to lead-on. |

Hello Sheik Are there any scriptures in the bible that give you this idea. what I read makes me think the covering is long hair, not a veil or a bonnet. |

Remember, when everybody is in a congregational setting everybody is facing forward.
Sometimes the extravagant beauty of a woman can serve as a distraction. (Long Beautiful Hair Included) Everybody with a sense of modesty doesn't what to stand-out when the subject at the moment is God and religious duties. Even most women make sure they wont out-do the bride when they go to a wedding, so it's very much the same idea. |

The key words here "self control". It is up to a man to control himself. A woman's beauty is no excuse for bad behavior. Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. |

Bible or not veiling is a good thing. I did cover my head stopped and now i cover again and it is definitely a freeing thing to do not for men and not for social reasons but for your own self. I have to say i like the tunic trouser set for men. It shouldn't be just the women.

So, is deliberately presenting One's self as a stumbling-block also something that should be advocated among Christians ? (1st Peter 3: 1-6) Is it the assumption that Everyone visiting the church is self-disciplined... ? Including new members ? |

So, is deliberately presenting One's self as a stumbling-block also something that should be advocated among Christians ? (1st Peter 3: 1-6) You have a point there. If a Christian woman can see that her presence is arousing a man sexually she may want to present herself in modest clothing. If she did that trying to follow the will of God that is a good thing. We should all try to follow the will of god and obey his commandments. Not our own idea's. Does he command that all women be covered from head to toe? I don't think so. That is a man made rule. Religion is a dangerous tool when people use it force their views on others. I think we need to be very careful and make sure we are actively trying to follow the word of god, and not actively trying to justify our own agenda. I do not know what the Koran teaches. Is it the assumption that Everyone visiting the church is self-disciplined... ? Including new members ? |
