Hi Cowboy, I was born and raised in south Ga. I'm 47. I remember a childhood like that. You would be hard pressed to find us indoors. The screen door would be unlocked, we would be out playing until mom called us in. Of course i'm a dinosaur...but we didn't have video games. I wouldn't trade places with kids now days. They don't know what they're missing. It's a lifetime of memories. There would be ten or twelve of us out playing ball, all the games kids use to play. You wouldn't see us misbehaving in the store, If you did..you could bet you would also see an a$$ whiping, and another one when your dad got home. There were no worries about kidnappers and pedophiles..although i'm sure they were out there, not to the degree there are now. Morals and values were instilled in us, because our parents took the time to do so. You would hardly ever see a kid without a mom "and" dad. Divorce...although it existed was not nearly what it is now. This is not just a southern thing, this is everywhere. Here are the reasons for the decline in integrity and morals. People now, are so "me" focused and "me" oriented, that others needs or feelings are simply not a priority issue. The decline has came about with the trend of divorce, which really started booming in the late seventies. Single parents, although maybe well intentioned, and in some cases necessaily so, (due to drug /alcohol abuse by spouse) simply cannot afford the time it takes to properly raise a child. Moreover, a child needs a mother and father figure, someone to set examples for them, and teach them. So, you have a couple of generations of people who were not taught morals and values, and therefore did not pass them on to their children, who are now adults...but don't know how to behave like one. It's a thing called pride, and resolve, and dignity. It still exists in some households, but not like it did when i was a child. Manners? lol, not many people even know the word. Sad but true. Thanks for your time in reading, Mark |

I was raised by my mother mostly and only i turned out the way a young man should my brother turned out to be the guy like my real father. i wish more kids could learn what i did as a kid and be as patriotic as I am.
