i've had these two said to me a few times in my life...i'm still trying to figure out their significance....

not even an attempt at expounding?

so i guess it's "once is enough"?

ones current love is the love that matterz

and if there is none to speak of ? does the memory of one, or the hope of another pervade ?

well since i was taken away from my first love by my parents moving
never had a chance to explore it and see where it went

as far as the 2nd my x's are x's for a reason so the 2nd time around does not come in to play

and a new love i don't think about past loves <shrug>

and if your first love...becomes lovelier the second time around...?

i don't know if maybe, for some people, it can also mean that after having lost the one they love...thinking that they could never love the same way again...they have to be open to the possibility of it, without the previous relationship overshadowing what could be.

no idea how to find my first love , have tried a few times to look for her , but never had any luck
figure she has married and changed last names by now

well i don't go in to a new love thinking about and old
i go in with hope that it will work where as the others didn't

i don't love the same way again
its all ways different cause the people are different
there out looks on life , things they think about , etc etc etc

true. but we do learn from past relationships and experiences...either we correct our mistakes, or we become hardened by it... things that color our outlook, and some things that make us less innocent than when we experienced our first love.

and yeah i agree that it does make us less innocent , a lot less nieve

yes...less naive, less stubborn, less proud, less ambitious...
more open to the possibilities, more aware of differences and able to adjust...

well i don't mind being alone (first time in my life i have been able to say that)but don't get me wrong i would love to have a lady with me by my side
but for the first time i am able to go the rest of this jouney with out if need be
i have some great friends (both married and single) to chat with
so its very rare for me to get lonely
and i have a doggy that loves me more then the world (very lucky to have that)
but since i am too dumb to under stand what she says most of the time the talking kinda sucks

but i will keep looking , and if its meant to be something will happen
cause i know my life seamed a lot more fun and fuller when i had a lady by my side
they just turned out to be not the right one

i have not changed much since my younger years ,i have become more enlighted that is about it ... i will change for no one and i am still the same way now and all ways be
i can learn but will never change <shrug>

"They say..." a lot of things that turn out to be patently untrue.

"They say..." a lot of things that are more for the sake of the relationship they are trying to maintain than for the sake of passing on any factual knowledge.

The significance of why a lot of people romanticize their past? The farther they get away from it, the more meaningful and magical it becomes for a lot of people?

I've also heard "third time's the charm."

But if you want to place relevance in song lyrics I've also heard "I am the eggman, they are the eggmen, I am the walrus, goo goo g'joob."

So maybe love is lovelier the second time around as long as you are the eggman and I am the walrus.
You could say they've said that too.

i know i enjoyed life a lot more when i had a lady with me <shrug>
maybe one day i will get lucky enough to have that joy again
older i get seams less chance of it happening but i still try
