i have a 1992 saturn sl and my motor has a bad ratteling noise
|

is it a constant or does it only rattle under certain conditions, ex. like over a certain speed.

is there any type of smoke?

it can rattle if the valve ring go bad, but then you get blue smoke. alot of saturns ive seen have blue smoke.
could be the valves, lack of pressure. something could be loose. could be in an axle. any help or am i confusing you?? |

if a check engine light comes on you can go to auto zone and get a code key for free and they can help you use it. you put it in (there should be a box to the lower left of your steering wheel where it fits) and the check engine light will blink and you gotta count how many times and that's your number then you tell them the code(s) you got and they can tell you the problem and ways to troubleshoot to fix it

You can do it with a paper clip too. Short out the A and B terminals on the ALDL connector (under dash) and turn on the ignition. The check engine light will flash any codes automatically.

|
|
If it's making noise I doubt knowing any trouble codes will help anyway. Mechanical problems won't be stored as codes.
