Baltimore used to be a decent place once upon a time, a pretty nice town. The police are on an "unofficial" strike in my opinion, and I tend to agree that they need to be able to DO their jobs. That means they can't have the mayor telling them to back off. They can't afford to second guess their weapons use when thugs (of any race or color) are armed to the teeth.

I'd go on strike too if I was prohibited from using any means needed to defend or protect myself in that hell hole.

Violent criminals are going to get hurt. People who get in the way and interfere during a police action are going to get hurt...not the fault of the police, given correct procedure, accidents can happen even then. If someone is interfering in a police action they are already breaking the law.

Kindergarten rules, Behave and you won't get in trouble.

this is not about whether people get 'hurt' for not playing by the rules

this is about use of 'excessive force'

this is about whether not playing by the rules justifies DEATH when one is not armed,,,

different extremes

noone has prohibited them from firing upon armed people,, the concern, rightly so, is whether any and every 'threat' they may encounter justifies deadly force

THIS is why black parents have spanked their children, when they grow up the punishment for 'not listening' could very well be death

I dont think a simple 'time out' really relays that reality to them when they are younger,,,,

I can think of a change that must be made to start the process of recovery in black communities......

Sharpton's history is checkered and spotty. His talent for transparent money management is one of the worst in the country.

We know beyond the shadow of a doubt Al Sharpton doesn't care about the plight of regular folk in America, black or white.

Instead he feeds off of tragedy and uses it to advance his own political and financial agenda.

It's about time those he claims to represent would speak out against him.

Perhaps more blacks in America will pick up the mantle and use their voices to speak out against this racial profiteer

and targeting this man who gets media to pay attention to the stories of otherwise disregarded minorities,,, would help minorities how exactly?

This race baiting ambulance chaser who profits off the grief of others, extorts and uses the poorest of his own race to promote his self grandising, a tax cheat hiding money in corrupt "non-profit" laugh organizations with shoddy bookkeeping, who always leaves the scene when the well or his welcome runs dry....

but he's done so much for his people

I guess if you call setting race relations back 50 years along with the clown in the WH and his buddy Jessy..... yep! But it's more what he's done to them than for them!

Even MLK's wife calls him a race baiting, profiteering, charleton

AL SHARPTON! It's guys like him that Flip Wilson had in mind when he did his "Reverend Leroy" skit..."Send your money to God...but make the check out to ME! I'm gonna take alla those checks to the bank and cash 'em. Then, I'm gonna throw alla that money up in the air... and God can grab what he wants...what hits the ground belongs to ME!"

50 years ago? people REALLY wouldn't care if a young unarmed black man was shot,,,,,,they would barely care if he was found hung,,,,50 years ago? our great black leaders who spoke out were ASSASSINATED

,,,,much has happened, this man has been there through the progress that has been made and his voice, however unwelcomed it is by some, and that voice has caused spotlights on situations that would otherwise be swept under a rug or minimalized

Maybe they get tired of seeing the same stupid thugs running the streets. Doing the same crime over and over. Maybe that could change.

The killing of Walter Scott was already breaking news, front page stuff, and on the 15 minute cycle of every news agency on the planet earth. The police officer involved had already been fired, arrested for murder and arraigned, denied bail, and kept jailed awaiting trial...and THEN along comes Al...and THEN comes Mr. Scott's family telling him to stay away, the funeral is for family only, and to take his "circus" antics elsewhere.

So, what was being swept under the rug before he arrived on the scene?

The only thing in danger of being minimized in this situation was Mr. Scott's life at the hands, or more literally, the mouth, of Al Sharpton and his pretentious grandiosity.

I know you are biased, but Al Sharpton is nothing more than a self important buzzard feeding on the carrion of the misery of others.

He does NOT help his people, he takes advantage of them.

Al Sharpton is a racist and an epic failure at securing equality for blacks.

He incites hatred with his inflammatory rhetoric and drives a wedge in the smallest crack in race relations, widening the divide.

He would best serve his people, his country, and the civil rights cause by uttering nary another word.

Nonsense

he doenst' incite anything, he is in his seventies,,,,

he has as much right to his dissenting opinions of authority as anyone here has to their dissenting opinions of politicians, or lawyers, or any other group regularly shown disdain here

only difference is the media decides when to give his voice public spotlight (he speaks to many issues that the public is never exposed to or drenched in the way media drenches them in anything interracial he becomes a part of)

Yeah, yeah, yeah...he incites with his rhetoric and you know it.

I am not disputing his right to dissent, I am saying that he lines his pockets by exploiting the very people he is purporting to render aid.

Tell me one specific thing he has accomplished on behalf of the black people. What persistent change ensued due to his speeches or activism?

What has he lent his voice to that wasn't already a much publicized happening he was trying to cash in on?

EXAMPLE OF HIS "ACTIVISM"

This past weekend, Rev. Al Sharpton headed to Hartford, Connecticut for an anti-violence rally. On Saturday, he spoke at Shiloh Baptist Church, and in a typical Sharpton move, he asked the members of the congregation to donate $100 or more to his National Action Network.
Pastor Marcus Mosiah Jarvis was not happy about Sharpton trying to solicit money from his congregation, and he wasn’t afraid to say it.
“How dare you ask the people of Hartford to give you their money!” the pastor yelled as Sharpton walked down the aisle of the church. “You’re nothing but a pimp!”
And Jarvis didn’t stop there. He then confronted Sharpton for using the anti-violence rally as a cover for “coming into a community where people are struggling for jobs, struggling for money, and demanding money to speak.”
“Don’t you come up in here asking us for money,” he concluded.
Stunned, Sharpton mumbled that he wanted the money so that he could build a memorial for victims of violence in Hartford, but Jarvis wasn’t buying it. The pastor later told the press that the people of Hartford do not need a memorial. Instead, they need “classes where people can come for credit repair, establishing credit, home ownership, creating a resume, how to look for a job, mock interviews.
“That’s how you empower people,” he told the press.

more media inundation and misrepresentation, yeah I heard this sensational bit 'exploited' by many outlets,, except when I read it he allegedly asked other PASTORS to contribute,, the guys who regularly ask their patrons to contribute to their church causes

but to answer the question, knowing its rhetorical and the facts wont get in the way of the soundbytes,,,

one can visit the national action network website to see what he has been/is doing to help people,,,

“I hope it’s a glitch. I hope it’s something

Councilman Welch spent the day in the West
Baltimore District he represents as the

staged a clean-up.
“We don’t have to wait for anybody else to

How about the "citizens" who rioted work or pay for their own community rebuilding? Maybe (but I doubt it} they wouldn't be so quick to light it up next time. Besides, I think that FEMA is still trying to track where the funds for Katrina went...

"" "It's a very delicate balancing act because
while we try to make sure that they were
protected from the cars and the other things
that were going on, we also gave those who
wished to destroy space to do that as well,
and we work very hard to keep that balance
and to put ourselves in the best position to
de-escalate."
The remarks about giving space to "those who
wished to destroy" generated swift, strong
criticism amid more than two dozen arrests,
at least 15 police officers injured, and looting
and arson in the city.
"Incompetent beyond belief," was one of the
responses on Twitter. "The mayor of Baltimore
should be charged immediately for inciting a
riot," was another.
On Monday, Rawlings-Blake posted a
clarification on her Facebook page .
"I did not instruct police to give space to
protesters who were seeking to create
violence or destruction of property," she
wrote. "Taken in context, I explained that, in
giving peaceful demonstrators room to share
their message, unfortunately, those who were
seeking to incite violence also had space to
operate.""

Her "clarification" came only AFTER the damage had been done....how convenient for her. Maybe she should have examined her initial statement more closely before stating it...just more incompetence on her part.
Youre polishing a turd MH....but hey, knock yourself out.
Btw.....with 380 businesses damaged, she sure as hell wasnt telling police to stop a damn thing..No matter, glad they arent getting fed money for her mismanagement.
