I use a Toshiba.
But what happened to yours? Mine crashed and burned about a year ago. Window 7 went down for the last time. So I bought a usb hard drive and installed openSuse 13.2 on it. I was amazed that all the files on the internal drive were still visible. So I was able to copy them to the usb drive. After I was even able to install suse on the internal drive too. Yours may not have bitten the dust. Anyhow, I had an Acer and a Compac in the past. Never again. Not sure what I'm getting next either. This one finally lost the internal drive. The dvd player went about 1 and half years ago. So I'm not really happy with the Toshiba either. But still, it didn't leave me hanging like the other two did so......... Maybe I'll get another Toshiba. Maybe I'll go back to building a new PC. |

Good morning. Tmommy
I have an Acer and I haven't had major problems with it. It's basic, does what I need. I hear the applemac are really good from my mates at uni I got the one i got because when yoy work in schools here the schools provide you with a new one every 3 years. I did have a dell desktop but it was getting old. |

I love Acer...
I have had an HP...hated it. I have had Dell... was okay just not what it was cracked up to be. I have gone with Acer the last couple of laptops When I replace the one I am on I will stay with them. I am a gamer along with data, so all around great laptops. |

This ASUS laptop has served me well. I've had one since college. The only downside to it is that it's kind of heavy (gaming machine, you know), but the price was damned reasonable ($1,200 on Amazon.com and I had $200 in gift cards). It's not quite razor-edge, but it's close, and you pay a lot less for something in second place that's just about as good as first.

Your getting all kinds of conflicting info here. So......
I'll add this. I do a lot of work at cell sites. The laptops I've had have been through some tough times. Combat conditions. So I found the Toshiba was the most durable. It sounds like the graphics circuitry went bad. So I'm not sure why this repair shop didn't see that from the get go. One thing you can try is to make sure the graphics driver is up to date. You can also try reinstalling the graphics driver. But the repair shop should have already done that. So........ Good Luck. |

Is there brand you love or one you hate so much you would not take one even if they were giving them.away? They all have the motherboard buy , ASUS mostly..they just put their little gizmos on there. followed buy Intel or AMD Cpus then NVIDIA or AMD graphics which is one in the same of the cpus respectively. Me I would go with the ASUS LAPTOPS. Really nothing on them but the drivers in one directory .Over here we have a win 7 I5 4core for 700 smackers .Yeah I know I said ASUS .. , but hey its win 7 better then crappy win8=win 10 only win 10 is clip art with no transparency. |

HP and MACs have been good to me.
Also, just to throw it out there, I am an IT professional who does consultancy on the side. I can fix most computer issues such as Virus removal, computer running slow, New Operating system installation, networking solution, printers, etc. I cater to Houston Metropolitan area and is reasonably priced so If anybody is interested, please send me a private message. Thank you! |

Thank you! You do know you have ALTEX just like I . Plus, a mac is a pc. I hope you do realize that. Yeah Hp is reasonable in some years ,and this seems to be the good years until its found out differently lol. |

If you are going with a laptop, then ASUS is the best (if you want Windows or will use Google's version of Windows). HP's sell good but they just do not compare to ASUS.
I will add that the Surface Pro 3 is kick azz. Tablet and laptop all rolled into one. Anyways, I would check CNet and see what they have to say. Good info there. |

MSI Gaming laptop - reasonable price the best performance

I've had, for about 2 years, an HP. It's a dm4. It still works great. Of course, I perform regular maintenance on it, and keep everything in check.

Brand does not seem to be much of a factor for me compared to if it's designed for home use or business use. My experience is "Home use" systems are crap regardless of maker(there might be some good ones but I have not seen them).
I always tell people to buy the onsite, no fault warranty for min 3 years so you can have anything fixed you need and you don't have to loose site of the system and potentially your data... I will say I am partial to Dell. Over the last 15 years in the IT industry, I have always had good service on business class systems from Dell that I bought personally as a home user. I tend to shop the scratch and dent/refurbished section at Dell as you can save some bucks that way. They work just as well as a brand new one you pay more for. Any system can have issues, it's how those issues are resolved I care about. I would make sure you get a Solid State Drive as you will like the response times better. My two cents. |
