Ah, yes, "dueling self-righteousness" games.

Always entertaining.

"You're clearly prejudiced, because you said x."

"Yeah? Well you're prejudiced about something too, so that means I get a free pass for my prejudice, because I caught you in yours."

"Well, I should get a free ride for all my actual shortcomings, because someone was prejudiced against me for things I never did."

"Yeah? Well then I should get to punish you for all that stuff you never did before, because you're trying to cheat now."

"Hey! You guys are talking about stuff that's been going on since forever, and saying the same things over and over, so that means we should all pretend all the problems are gone, and everyone who's being oppressed now, deserves it!"

I'm a simple fix-it guy. So the way I look at all this crap, fits an old observation: two wrongs don't make a right.

Nor does three wrongs.

Nor does making wise cracks about the three wrongs.

Nor does saying you are fatigued about how many wrongs there are.

Nor does pointing out even more wrongs.

The messes are still there on the floor, and almost everyone is still grinning and posturing with their hands on their hips, and patting themselves on the back for how clever they are for making snarky comments about the messes.

Some parties like to make the false claim that others are bigots when there is no bigotry because those parties don't agree with the politics of the people being wrongfully accused of bigotry.

TY...but weren't you the one that put this out here slaphead >>>

Welcome to the thread; and while so many of you 'OLE' MEMBERS' might get tired of the repetitive topic of conversations around here --- this is how we converse and get acquainted --- it's an exchange of ideas and POV that we won't/don't know until we discuss the issue! flowerforyou

I gave my POV. Are we not permitted to discuss false claims?

people claim others are liars on a regular basis in this thread,,, so, yes,,, I do believe even 'discussion' on 'false claims' is permissable,,

btw. ,my op was merely a vent

a colleague talks about women and muslims and poor people EVERYDAY,, and for some reason decides to mention that they have friends in this group

it comes across to me as if there is a belief that if one has friends(often acquaintances) in that group, it excludes them from being bigoted toward that group

In fairness to the OTHER side of this phenomenon...

sometimes people ARE NOT prejudiced, and really DO have friends amongst a given group, but still have things to complain about them for. In a stumbling attempt to explain themselves, they point out that they actually DO have friends on the criticized group.

In short, it CAN just be that they are having a tough time expressing themselves clearly and accurately. Or, that they know how sensitive many people around them are about the subject matter, and hope to make clear in advance, that they are criticizing a particular individual, and aren't doing so as a way to generally attack the group that the individual is a part of.

yanno, I hardly ever hear that expression any more, but I think there can be exceptions to the rule. Perhaps it is bigoted, IDK that it is always.

We used to discuss whether 11 yrs old was too young for a child to babysit, And I would say that I was Ok with my daughter doing it, but definitely would not be with many other 11 yr olds I was acquainted with at the time. I really don't feel that I had any prejudice against 11 yr olds. Kids simply mature at different rates.

But if I said it in a way to disparage a race or ethnicity, or gender in a non factual manner that's different. That could be bigotry.

Fact vS Opinion is one diclaimer maybe?
