Someone has allready mentioned Welbutrin. I went to my Dr. to get
something to quit smoking. My Doctor prescribed Welbutrin. I have been
taking it for a couple months now and I have actually quit smokning.
Originally, Welbutrin was created for depressed people. Most of the
people that were taking it for depression were smokers, evidently they
quit smoking. Maybe, but I don't know for sure. Maybe, just maybe, most
people who smoke are DEPRESSED. Does anyone have any feedback on this.
Green eyes

I am not as depressed and am smoke-free.

4u,
Depression is a serius illness, that can be treated
but every medication doesn't work for everyone ,
I work with substance abuse, and have seen many patients
that became addicted for selfmadicating, due to depression this is not
your case but this what I see every day, people try different meds.,
Until they find the one that works for them. I believe in counseling as
well as medication when needed. Depression has cause so much pain to
families and friends of those affected by this illness. You are very
lucky to know it and acknowleged in time, baby you know what to do. get
help.

lives.

I have battled depression most of my life, it gets better and then
worse. Mine is pretty much chemical imbalance and yet will have
situational depression nail me at times too. I have tried most of the
drugs out there had side effects to most, except one, and it is now off
the market because a few people had liver failure and died from it. I
had taken it for probably 5 years off and on, but didn't have anything
bad happen with it. I wouldn't be afraid of the drugs, just be sure you
follow-up with your doctor and take them as prescribed, and don't stop
taking them without the doctor monitoring you, because you can become
more depressed when you stop. Seems like they recommend a 9 month course
on the pills before trying to stop. If you are trying natural, I would
consult a naturopath or someone who is trained in the natural
supplements, they can be tricky and if you mix the wrong ones can be as
bad as mixing the wrong meds. Counseling is important, and if it is
your daughter, there are lots of women's groups out there (don't know
her age) but I have found women's groups very helpful. Also made friends
through them which made me feel less isolated also. During my most
depressed times I feel very isolated and tend to withdraw, so counseling
or a group is helpful to pull me out of it. Counseling doesn't have to
be long term either to be helpful. Right now I am dealing with my
depression being worse because of my living situation (taking care of my
disabled dad)- and he frankly is making me crazy at times.

Part 2. There are some fairly new drugs out that work differently than
the old ones and without the side effects. Some people are having good
luck with Cymbalta, may want to ask a doctor about that.

You could also probably go out on Google and put in depression and come
up with a ton of sites with information on depression also. I use
Google daily in looking up medical terms and drug names in my work.
Just a thought.

Just being supportive of her is helpful and you obviously are that,
knowing someone cares makes a big difference in a depressed person's
life. Take care and good luck.

Is also realy complicated for the one who is residing
with the depressed person, sometimes is hard to understand.
depression can be contagious. I have seen a mothet with a depressed
child, going trough the same feelings of depression and when the
depressed person goes for theraphy, the other will need some counseling
as well

I've suffered from depression for years myself..even had a couple of
hospital "visits" because of it.
Ironically, the medication they gave me so I don't try to do myself in
anymore is going to kill me anyway, but at leat I'll be "happy" when I
die lol.

And ppl wonder why I smoke pot lmao
