I'm going to try to quit smoking again, I've lost count at how many times it's been that I have tried to quit before. Tried a a couple months ago with the new pill Chantix but had to stop that after having the most horrible night mares.

As of two hours ago I put a patch on, started cheweing some gum....so far so good, but like I said it's only been a couple hours. Wish me luckflowerforyou

read a study, said women have a harded time than men, due to a genetic thing. Know Gwen tried but just couldn't, even with the cancer diagnosis.

OMG tarvin you aren't kidding about bad dreams....I had to stop taking it 2 weeks after I started it.

Thanks guys for the well wishes, I really do want to quit this time. Besides health issues, it's just getting too damn expensive.

Good luck but be careful! I heard of someone using the patch and pill together and ended up in the ER...was getting too much nicotine in the system, made their heart race like they have never experienced.

I know it's tough, I use to smoke also. But you know those pharmisuitcal companies are as bad as the tabacco companies, they just want your money...I used the patch, only I cut them in half and was able to quit within 2 weeks...not the 10 weeks they suggest. $$$

Good luck to you!flowerforyou

Keep on quiting till you have done it!
I have heard some bad things about that Chantix.
I think they need to take it off the market!
Prayers for you to have great strength and will to quit!

smoking rewrites the commands to the neural transmitters which fire of the neurons to different segments of your body and central nervous system.

the chemicals and make up of nicotine, with its foreign objects replace the CNS (central nervous system's) natural management of these neurons.

as a result, when you quit smoking, there are major physiological changes, affecting all the different neurons.

Afferent neurons convey information from tissues and organs into the central nervous system and are sometimes also called sensory neurons.
Efferent neurons transmit signals from the central nervous system to the effector cells and are sometimes called motor neurons.
Interneurons connect neurons within specific regions of the central nervous system.
Afferent and efferent can also refer generally to neurons which, respectively, bring information to or send information from the brain region.

What basically has to happen is invoking the CNS to re-activate those transmitters which were disabled and replaced by the intake of nicotine.

Generally, you'll find that citris and various proteins will teach the CNS to refire those neurons and begin to again transmit through your system.

The combination of exercise, and fresh vegetables will invoke this affect.

the nicotine patch only weans the human body off the artificial neural transmitters, but doesn't ever properly invoke the natural synapsis to return to fully functioning state.

As a result, many folks end up back smoking again.

It also takes 21 days for the nicotine to leave your system, and then another 90 days to fully re-activate your CNS to act in their intended creative function.

A brisk walk in the morning, when you wake up will give you the intake and ability to motivate your body. then to eat something such as a grapefruit, and keep apple or lemonade on hand for each time you get a craving.

you'll discover that the sensations within your body will disapate whenever you talk a drink.

This combination will make the transition easier for you :)

Hope the link helps. I noticed something; you titled the thread "Another futile attempt" - why are you considering yourself to have failed even before trying? That might be something that deserves more thought.

tried to quit many times was unable to do it. finally opened a pack of cigarettes and dumped all the ashtrays in the house togeather, placed them by the computer everytime I would reach for a cigarette would have to lean across that foul smelling ashtray would not even pick the pack up. that was 5 months ago still not smoking.
