hey guys a little help here please? I am not legally separated but have been separated for over a year now, I want to get a divorce within the next few weeks, where do I go inn the court house to file the paperwork? The divorce is mutual and we wish not to drag it into court, we want it done as soon as possible. i realize it may take longer, but I just need to know where to go to file?? Please if you have any information?? Thanks

There's alot of information on line on how to do a "do it yourself" divorce. If you agree on all the important stuff, this route is definitely cheaper.

When I got mine, I went into the courthouse and got the papers. Then sat down the with husband and filled them out. Cost us $215 to file. 30 days after that was our court date. 120 after that our divorce was final. It may be different depending on where you are are.

Mach, I did my own in Illinois, but each state is different. Your local courthouse (wherever you'd go to file the paperwork for family court) should have lawyers there certain days to assist you. The lawyers donate so much "free" time to remain members of their bar association.

Also here, we have a document prep company called "We the People" you could see if such a place exists in your city. These people will help you guys draft your docs for a fee.

Hope this helps a bit.

I just did my friends divorce. I got the papers from the liabrary...just go up and ask them at the desk and they will make you copies. Type them up and take them in to the court house and pay the fee.
In Indiana it only cost 110.00, so its a lot cheaper to do it on your own. The paper work is very easy. Good luck flowerforyou

Here in Ohio, I filed first a petition for divorce, and I think it was about $100 fee. Then you need to agree on who will get what, and have a "judgement entry" written up, because you are asking the judge to grant your divorce and he wants to see who will get what, and so on, and sign off on it. So best to sit down together and decide how you will divide things, if any is needed. She may choose to just take a few things and go her own way. Or she may wish to get back half of what she put in for the time you were married. If you and her cannot reach an agreement, try using a 3rd party to help you, maybe a paralegal. They are cheaper than attorneys. Once you file the petition for divorce, they will give you a court date. When the court date comes, have your judgement entry ready for the judge to sign. That's really all there is to it.

Also, you go to the Civil court to file it. At least here you do.
