When I first met Jake, both of us were in a very dark place. 3 months before, I had lost my 2 female Jack Russels, a mother daughter pair I had bred who were named Fanci and Molli, to anti-freeze poisoning. It was an awful time for me....

Jake was living in Kansas City, outside in a tiny little chicken wire pen, no doghouse, no food bowl, living in several inches of his own excrement. My sister heard his owners wanted to re-home him, and was horrified when she saw him, their excuse was they could not house break him. They got him because he was related to Wishbone, and their kids liked the show. She snatched him up,ran, and brought him to me on Christmas eve.

He was 5 pounds underweight, stained yellow... he had scars all over his muzzle and ears from trying to push himself thru the chicken wire. He did not know what a milkbone was, had never seen a dog toy so he did not know how to play, and he inhaled every scrap of food because he never knew when he'd get his next meal. he was terrified to go outside by himself, scared he'd be left again...

2 days after he arrived, he fell over and laid their like he was dead. When I picked him up, his bladder released, I freaked!! The vet discovered he had heart worms, every intestinal parasite possible, a bacterial infection in his blood, and his iron was nearly non-existent...

It's been years now, he's a wonderful happy dog, he was house broken within a week. His scars have healed, his heart is fine and healthy. He will now lay in the sun in the yard, and keep a sleepy eye on me. He still eats like there's no tomorrow, lol... Some mornings when I wake, he's laying with his head on my pillow, and as soon as I open my eyes I see him staring into them, and he wags his tail so hard...

When my pain is bad, he's right there, always. Gentle, snuggly, resting a paw on me, watching my every move. Doesn't care if I cry on him...

If I'm acting crazy, and dance around the house, he leaps and barks, wagging furiously...

The question is....

Who saved who?

Hmm? I do not think that is who save who. It was more liked that you are both saved that is when you decide get to save him that is himself. I know when younger when see remind of TV dog name Wishbone. But anyway that is what think anyway that is my opinion.

I also rescued a dog that was in bad shape and now years later I ask the same question, in reflection I guess he really saved me.
