What is the best pick up line you've heard or used? And did it work or was there that awkward silence

Why don't we get drunk and rub our bellies together?

Got a big laugh, a free beer, and a pretty woman to talk to for the evening.

I reckon it broke the ice.

My best one is:

"Mind if I sit here, ugly? You look like you could use the company."

Even the ones that are initially angry at being called ugly eventually see the humor in it. It is an ice breaker!

 I have been slapped, had drinks thrown on me, cursed...but they all wound up talking my ears off all night. You just keep grinnin' and they'll come around.

I once used, "Hey there. Look, I am going to be honest. Go ahead and slap me now because I am about to use a cheesy pick up line on you, which I know and you know will not work.....so slap me now and just spare me the aggrevation of saying it....or just let me buy you a drink since I have already talked to you for like a minute...so you know I have balls to approach you and would love to just get to know you....so how about it?"

when i am out riding, if i see a woman at a bus stop, i will pull up next to the curb and say "you obviously need a ride, and i am going that way, get on"

i usually get a response. either "i'm scared of motorcycles" so i say "me too, that's why i drive carefully". or "i might fall off" so i say "in order for you to fall off, you have to drag me with you. after what i paid for this bike, you ain't gonna drag me off"

i usually end up giving them a ride somewhere. sometimes it's just a ride, sometimes i make a friend. i guarantee i guarantee i avoid doing that if i see a woman with a lot of grocery bags, a baby stroller, or if there is a guy standing nearby having a smoke

(bulldog double guarantee - patent pending)

What is the best pick up line you've heard or used?

"Does this rag smell funny?"

did it work or was there that awkward silence

It worked AND there was silence.
Win win all around.

Most of the "lines" which I have seen work, weren't because of the line itself. It was because the target woman or man involved WANTED to be "picked up" by the person who said the line, and so was predisposed to accept almost anything they said.

Of course, if someone says something that triggers anger for other reasons, then problems ensue.

I'm way too shy and too snotty to use "lines," myself. They piss me off before I can utter them, so I wont use any. The closest I can manage, is to say something abstract, like "hello," and MAYBE observe something honestly amusing about the situation.

People who actively craft "lines" do WAY better "picking people up," than I ever have or will.

Men normally just ask me directly, which I prefer. I never use Coffee as an excuse to invite them round. I prefer direct to chat-up lines. If it's corny, then I don't slap the man, or get irritated. I just laugh it off. Laughing solves it better than getting all angry ever will.
