Yes communication is key to any relationship but you don't build a house with rotting wood. Insurance adjusters wouldn't pay a claim for any damage if they knew the building material was sub standard before the house was built. Maybe it was her, maybe it was you letting her push you over the edge but one thing is clear, you went over the edge (verbally). Nothing worse happened and no matter what keep it that way. I can tell you from experience that even if she was 101% at fault it's still going to hurt. That's one of those things about loving someone, even once it becomes clear that they DON'T love YOU, it still hurts that they are no longer there.

I think you did an excellent job of communicating your thoughts and feelings. She just didn't like what she heard. Were you a jerk? Sure. Were you honest? You provided evidence that you were. If you want to discuss issues with someone in the future I would suggest to you that honesty doesn't have to be insulting. Once you belittle someone they pretty much stop listening and are less willing to adjust to your "demands".

Comes down to this; while you have every right to not want to feel like you are carrying dead weight in your relationships, she has every right to not feel like a burden in her relationships.
